I am actually suprised that an adopted person would feel this way.

I was curious and wanted to know badly since I can remember.

As a child did you not want to know how tall you will probably be, will I have hair when I am older, is there a talent in my family I am not aware of, when a doctor asks are then any family health histories they should be aware of?

I should correct my statement I am more than suprised but really, really shocked at how different you feel about it.

Anyone else tempted to put some of their dog's saliva into the test tube to ship back?

I got my 23 & me results back a couple of weeks ago and discovered I am 21.8% Ashkenazi Jew (100% European). My mother never knew who her father was so I think this tells me something. She was born just pre-war in 1937 so I wonder now who my Grandpa might have been. Someone smart enough to escape Europe before the atrocities, perhaps? I will make up my own story for him. I found it all very interesting - the ancestry and the health parts equally.

And we are the scatterlings of Africa
Both you and I
We are on the road to Phelamanga
Beneath a copper sky
And we are the scatterlings of Africa
On a journey to the stars
Far below, we leave forever
Dreams of what we were

I assume you know about this?

Genealogy is pretty easy for Icelanders--we can trace it all the way back to the 12th century.

But I think it's only fair to note that for people of more "Canadian" origin, the matter is quite different. Families and ethnicities have intermarried, people have moved away long distances and not kept in touch, etc., and this happens in every generation. Nowadays we are impressed if someone can trace their ancestry to Ellis Island, let alone the Mayflower.

That's why I am never getting this testing done. And, those mimes had it coming.

Interesting about the adopted posts here.

One of my oldest friend's dad was adopted, and got a private detective to help him in the 2000s to find his birth family. The man is an amazing musician.

He finds out that his brothers are Bill and Rick Henderson of Chilliwack. So that was cool to see that there is some strong artistic skill in the blood line, that were raised independent.

I was going to order one of these kits, but every time I go to the bathroom I am clearly reminded that part of my family comes from Africa.......
