Actually, it's the riders who need to know the info and it was just a friendly FYI so they know there is some tension building there.
There's actually an isolated cafe at the corner of Highway 549 and Highway 40 that does get some traffic . . . . . since you asked.
But, what are you gonna do? Motorcycles are loud and obnoxious and, in many cases, made deliberately that way. If communities don't like it, they'll do something about it . . . . . and they have in the past. Others, like Daytona, might go the opposite way. It's up to them.
I'm not against motorcycles and, in fact, my uncle owns one of the largest motorcycle dealerships in western Canada while my father rode his Harley around western North America in his younger days.

Understood. I thought you were masking some type of hate behind all the "I'm not the one complaining" comments.
The FYI is appreciated, I'm sure. (I never head down to Longview, so I wouldn't know.)
Yeah, I ride a Wing. I have a 1984 low-mileage Wing with a pull-behind trailer into which goes all the wife's luggage when we go crusing (and the wife if she complains too much). I also have a 2000 Honda Shadow ACE 1100, which is for sale if anyone is interested. I won't be joining this ride as I live too far away but organized a similar ride last summer for some people on a forum I partake in closer to where I live.
Riding is great. I'm on my Wing almost every day during the season, which is very long for me because I'm a hardy rider and can tolerate cold that would send most riders to their cars. My Wing is parked behind my office right now.
If I actually have the day off of work then I would be in. Never actually been on a group ride before so this would be fun. Driving a 2002 Bandit 600 right now.
So it will be at least "A couple guys from CP go for a ride". Looking forward to it Wilson.
BTW AWESOME choice in bike. My favorite bike I ever owned was my 2001 VFR and I still regret selling it. The first one I find with less than 5000 kms on it, I will be buying. That is the best all around machine ever. And super sexy with that single sided swing arm, and the fit and finish of that bike is on par with the best. What color did you end up getting? Mine was that Tahiti Blue.
Why thank you! I ended up with a red one (like thousands of others, haha) but love it all the same. I had ridden one (couple laps around the block) about 6 or 7 years ago.....I knew I had to have one, but the skills just weren't there. Will be changing all the fluids this weekend and just kinda getting acquainted with her, but the 200(ish) kilometers I put on the bike yesterday was honestly, sincerely the most enjoyable riding I've ever done.
Bottom line - if anyone on CP needs a riding buddy for safety (or just to enjoy riding as a pair), please don't hesitate to PM. I'm a somewhat busy fella, but can usually find a way to adjust the schedule to get some miles in!

One thing I would not do, is put an aftermarket pipe on that bike. You will lose all that V4 gear driven cam / gearbox whine goodness that thing comes with right out of the box. Listening to that engine wind up in second gear with that mechanical symphony coming from just between your legs is not found on anything else I have ever ridden.
I'm honestly gettnig a little bored with the roads around Calgary.
There are really only two that are good for a quick afternoon jaunt
(the 1A to Canore) and the 762.
As for longer rides, there are a couple:
Highway 40/541 through to longview
The Bow Valley Parkway out to Louise
Anyone know of any other good rides, especially shorter ones that can be done in 2 hours?
Nope, that's about it. I spent a couple summers desperately searching for the same thing. The only other road that's got any curves is Old Banff Coach Road, but it's got a low speed limit and lots of county mounties.
Re: VFR's: I also had a VFR back in the day, a '93, the year they were pearl white. VFR's are suh-weet bikes, highly recommended. I'm currently lusting after the new VFR1200.
Good question, I'll PM Wilson 24 to see if he is still interested. Maybe a few people might see it and sign up in the next 2 days. But it would really just be the 3 of us.
Just read this thread. Went from feeling annoyed, then bad, then sad, then happy. The hobby/mode of transport certainly gets a bad rap from the "fags" as the first thing I wanted to do was post an image from Southpark when I felt annoyed. But now that there's all sorts of happy feelings after bad feelings I can't bring myself to do it, and my joke is almost a month old
Enjoy your little weekend bike ride together... Boys will be boys..
