Oh I'm not 100% sure if it will be Ceili's. I was just saying that the podium space will be built and functional. It does not depend on the 2nd tower going ahead.

Also, one other thing that i heard about WEST. The patio is supposed to be considered something like an "open air business" so it's really not considered a "patio" by the laws of Calgary and they should be able to stay open till 2am.

Wild Rose Brewery in the Currie Barracks. It's really not much to look at, but for some reason, I've always had great times in those late afternoons sitting in the hot sun, drinking some tasty beer with really, really friendly people.

Oh
Okay then, guess that makes our conversation kind of redundant lol. Ceili's patio was great, no big buildings around it. The biggest thing was that parkade then bankers hall going east. West was. . . Nothing. The Court building to the North was just finishing, and nothing of note to the South until apartment buildings between 11th and 12th. It was quite the patio. Whatever goes there next (if it has a patio) will be surrounded by buildings and construction.

I'm partial to the James Joyce on the Stephen Ave. Not a great view, but tons of people watching to do.

Spent the day there before VirginFest last year, pretty big patio, lots of sun, decent food, service wasn't the greatest but they only had a couple girls on. I would go back, but not before checking some of these other places out.

I guess one that I should mention also, seeing WildRose on the list, is the Big Rock brewery. Only visited it once since it's a ways to travel from the NW, but it was a pretty nice patio, with decent food and of course, good beer.

Also, don't forget sitting outside on a sunny evening at McMahon Stadium (or Foothills Stadium).

Evening Vipers games are definitely a great spot.
Is there an opening date for the rest of this WEST place? Or is it June 3rd for everything?

West opened today. I actually just tried to book a lunch there for 6 on Friday and the only time slot they had open was 11am.

Hey, nothing wrong with pink shirts if worn right and not on a daily basis. No popped collars either

Didn't know where to post this, but this seemed the best place to do so.
I went to WEST on Friday night. We didn't go for dinner, we went for clubbing. These are my impressions:
The place is very reminiscent of Mynt (if any of you remember that place), except for it's a lot bigger and obviously more modern. The main party area was the second floor. The second floor is a huge room, with many smaller rooms everywhere with a different "feel" to them. That's the best way I can describe it. The main floor was pretty much kept as a kind of lounge with the same music being played upstairs, but a lot quieter so you can have a conversation. Music was pretty much anything and everything from top 40, old school Rap & RnB, rock, house all mixed really well by the DJ. The dance floor is decently sized, but for some reason not that many people were on the dance floor. The crowd was pretty much everyone between the ages of 21 and 45. Pretty much everyone is dressed to impress, so if you want to go, make sure you dress up (and yes there was a few pink shirts with popped collars, but it was mostly dress shirts with jeans and blazers).
My biggest bone to pick is their service is brutally slow. It will take you forever to get a drink at this place. I think this had to do with all the bartenders trying to learn the new computer system more than them being stupidly slow. I am pretty sure they'll figure it out in a couple of weeks.

We were there Friday too. The crowd was older, but I have a feeling it'll drop in age once word spreads. Definitely the 'nicest' club in the city. Really cool spot too.

It was definitely weird walking in to a closed mall at 11:00, with leering security guards watching you go up escalators on the way to the bar. Kinda strange in that respect, but I'm looking forward to seeing the patio.

I can second the fact that the service was brutally slow on the second floor. I seriously stood at the bar for about 15 minutes while the airhead bartenders flirted with some 65 yr old who ordered a glass of wine. I understand that he tips big but they could have poured 20 drinks in the time it took them to get this guy one glass. You don't have to give the guy a taster if you are only pouring him one glass and there is like 50 other people waiting for drinks.
Aside from that, this place is super nice. Very modern and stylish. The music was good and the crowd seemed like they were having a good time.

West - ya the service was slow but like somone else above said, it was due to learning the computer system and knowing where drinks were. I remember seeing one girl ask for a jager bomb and being told they were out of redbull. Then the person right beside her orders one from a different bar tender and gets redbull.
Once they learn the ins and outs of their bar it's going to be a great place to hang out. The patio is supposed to be ridiculous.
A big bonus are the prices. Drinks and food are decently priced for a place that you would expect to be paying a premium at.
