I think everything will be washed out right now, unless you are way upstream. Cutts will be just done spawning and maybe not too active yet. Rainbows should have returned to the Bow by now.

Hope to get out next week.

I figure the same...might be a slow start this year!

Fished at Cross Field last weekend and it was pretty good. Caught 5 fishes in the first 20 minutes, and then it died down and I only caught 1 in the next hour and a half.

Slava and troutman might reveal ancient widsom to young apprentices, for the right consideration.

I can cast but lack pretty much any and all knowledge which fly to use. Was given some gear for my b-day so now it will just be trial and error figuring everything else out.

There are some good books about fly-fishing in Alberta.

Learning where fish are, and what they eat is important. Learn how to read the water, and predict where fish are holding. Learn about which fly patterns attract trout.

Don't spend a fortune on gear. Better gear won't catch you more fish.

So I bought a rod and some gear. It's been a few years since I have fished seriously and I have some questions.

Has anyone ever tried using corn? There were some guys down by my work pulling out catfish and carp like crazy with corn. I asked them what they were using, but I didn't notice how they were doing it. Do you just let the corn sit on the bottom, or do you move it around? I didn't notice if they were using floats or anything.

Also, what type of artifical lures are good for just about anything fresh water. I used to use those twister tail things, but I think I used to only catch pike and bass with them.

Montana is a disaster right now. Record snowpacks mean rivers are high and muddy. Fly fishing business is down up to 50%.
