The interviews by his two sons are a really interesting glance into what happened and how those kids were raised. Its terrifying and sad that Fred Phelps would indoctrinate his kids in such a brutal fashion.
They also at one point indicated that Phelps was addicted to drugs that he used to get him through college.
On a side note, the trial that got him disbarred was a real glimpse into Fred Phelp's personality.
I also note that while Fred Phelps is a horrible person he did have a big hand in fighting the Jim Crow laws and did fight a lot of discrimination cases so there's a really strange history to the man.
