yesterday at UWO:
Quote:
Ms. Coulter took on a political science student who is Muslim.
After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, she had joked that Muslims denied air travel should take “flying carpets.” When the student challenged that remark, Ms. Coulter told her to take a “camel,” adding that, “I thought it was just American public schools that produced ignorant people.”

Wow, having read that article I can honestly say that Coulter is as ignorant as she is ugly. She's not even worth the back of anyone's hand let alone their attention. I hope she dies ironically.

As someone earlier noted, she's actually pretty smart, pretty mischevious and an expert at pushing the buttons that cause people to give her a lot of money.
If she wasn't the originator of the phrase, "There's a sucker born every minute," then she certainly understands it's import.
I sincerely doubt she believes even half the crap she spews but she understands said crap is necessary to perpetuate the persona.
I laugh every time I see her on TV because she makes little secret of the fact she's a hustler/grifter . . . . and if you've figured that out, she'll give you an uncaring wink because she knows you're in the minority.
She'll die a very rich woman.
Glen Beck, like fellow fruit loop Keith Olbermann on the other side of the tape, genuinely believes his viewpoints. Limbaugh . . . . I'm not so sure one way or the other.
The lesson is that extreme viewpoints, on the left or right, set you apart from the crowd and attract the more gullible wallets among us. These extreme commentators make more money, generally, than the more pragmatic because of a psychological state called "confirmation bias." They can be a warm blanket for certain segments of the population.
EDIT: The President of the University of Ottawa makes a big mistake: http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Ri...903/story.html

That's why Olbermann is just sad, but Coulter is actually evil.. she promotes and perpetuates things like racism purely for her own personal gain.

For all the ridicule she gets here, her latest article makes more sense than the 2000 pages of obamacare bill combined.

As Cowperson says, she has a lot in common with Don Cherry. It's all a schtick.

Not to about one-third of the population. We all have biases on display in this argument.
That's what "confirmation bias" is. She's preaching to the choir but she's so far out there that I highly doubt she's actually converting anyone.
She's only telling a certain segment of the population what they want to hear and in return, that segment sends her money.
She's a classic grifter and, frankly, I find it pretty funny. A fairly crafty snakeoil saleswoman.
It's the people who are genuinenly passionate about an extreme position that you have to be wary about. Their passion wins converts.
And what might be "offensive" to one-third of the population might be "the truth" to another third of the population.
In fact, I'd bet the farm on it.
It's the last one-third, mostly the uncaring pragmatists in the middle, who represent the prize. Those are the people who swing elections one way or the other. They can be periodically convinced to move left or right.
But Ann Coulter? I kind of doubt if she cares one way or the other who is in charge. Seriously. In fact, Democrats in charge are probably good for business.
As Meghan McCain wisely observed earlier this month, Coulter is actually bad news for the Republican Party.

I actually disagree. I personally have a sneaking suspicion/blind hope that the woman is a brilliant satirist lampooning the loonies on both sides. Either that, or she is the Devil Incarnate.

I guess that could also be it, undermining groups by satirising them, being such a bad example of them that they're all guilty by association... like how people register here pretending to be Flames fans to say and do things to make Flames fans look bad.

It's a laugh. She's not really saying things that are that harmful, just ridiculous. What's so funny is that she has hardcore supporters and people that hate her guts.

Well, it took her two seconds to demonstrate she's certainly smarter in the public arena than the President of the University of Ottawa.
