Write off everything and anything. Send it in. If the government questions you, say you didn't know that you couldn't claim that.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

However, it isn't easier to pay huge penalties and interest and possible tax avoidance / tax fraud allegations or charges than ask permission

hu-mour? Is that a form of a tumor? I wonder if I can claim that on my taxes... Time to see my doctor to get it diagnosed and a receipt issued for the visit.

Thank God I have one T4, and nothing else. Writing off this, writing off that, holding receipts here, there, everywhere, looking for loopholes, factoring in investment incomes, out of town gas usage taxes, donations, realtor fee writeoffs, student credits, unused student credits, bus passes, taxes for farting, slime tax, whatever else is out there, etc....
....thank God I'm not in that industry. I just eked by that stuff in business school. That stuff is waaaay too complicated for me!

It took me about 30 minutes to do my taxes on Quicktax, including entering donations, medical expenses, student loan interest, and a couple of other forms. That's for me and my wife, including doing NETFILE.
I think the "easystep" process in Quicktax is starting to get more complicated than just manually entering numbers into each form.

I give money to the Salvation Army every year when Christmas time rolls around, to the people that jingle those bells. That, and I put pennies in the take-a-penny-leave-a-penny tins at convenience stores. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.
