It's in it's own thread now, so what's your problem with it, bud? People post all kinds of threads; get over it.

The only problem I have is you saying the spelling is incorrect and that the English don't use it anymore because it isn't and they do... Maybe they had stopped using it back in the early 20th century though when that Encyclopedia was written

HP Love Craft, I'm pretty sure you've just been "owned". I'll resist the temptation to call you ignorant, uninformed, and another proud example of the failed Canadian education system because I have much more class than you. Good night now!

The spellyng ys yncorrect, Y sayd yt was rarely used. Maybe yt's more common than Y thought -- colloquyalysms sometymes are, but yt's still not the proper spellyng of the word tyre.
Y feel lyke Y'm wrytyng yn Olde Englysh. Oh wayt, Y am.

As with all debates, Google is the master of all:
"London Tyre Store" with 12 results in the greater London area
"London Tire Store" with 12 results in the greater London area, although most of them are named ____ Tyre Store still...

I noticed Nokian signs even in Calgary say Tyres. Considering many Finns (Saku Koivu, for instance) speak better English than quite a few Canadians, I'm apt to side with them

Provide your references -- and anonymous Wikipedia articles mean nothing when it comes to something authoritative -- or just stop trying to argue on the internet for the sake of arguing. Something that is said colloquially does not mean it is correct. Ain't isn't a word, either.

This debate is rydyculous, but whatever your profession is I think you're totally out of it you believe that "ain't" is any less a word than "isn't" so long as people are making use of it. Makes me question your basic understanding of what a language is.

I'm not sure I have ever seen 'tire' used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa by native speakers (or spellers, as the case may be). I've long felt I'm the only one who spells it that way here.
Even now, the Oxford dictionary in my hand says:
tire n. (Amer.) a tyre.

I think he was more getting at that "aint" is not a recognized English word.
Something can be a word, doesn't mean it is English. Take Cantonese for example. Slang would also be another good example.
I do agree that the English language is always evolving.

Recognized by who? Who is this mythical authority on what is and is not a word in English?
Are you suggesting that "ain't" is part of a language other than English?
