Still on 1.5? You've got to try and root your phone. You're missing out.

Ya I know. I've been hoping that Telus or HTC would finally get er done for the Hero but I'm tired of waiting. One of the first Android phones but the last to get the update.
There are TONS of threads out there for rooting phones, does anyone have a suggestion for one that has good, easy to follow instructions on how to do it for the Hero? I'm with Telus if that makes any difference.

Shaw's Android VOD app is available for download. It's for ordering VOD to your set top, not for streaming.

I wouldn't normally recommend something as simple as a live wallpaper but check out solar wind... it is fantastic.

Don't you only need the oneclickroot program to root your Galaxy S?
As for the JDK, the stupid android SDK installer seems to search for the 32bit version of the JDK. Install that instead and it'll work fine. Had the same issue myself a bit ago.

Beautiful Widgets - Awesome clock/weather, I've spent $2 on worse things.
Elixir - Great widgets (and free!), just wish it had a couple of the toggle widgets that Beautiful has (vibrate and silent, instead of just airplane mode), so I ended up with some widgets from each app, but made it look decent.
ADW Launcher - meh, kind of slow and not very customizable (apparently the EX version is miles better, but costs. Anyone used it?)
Launcher Pro - does most things I could want, pretty cool, think I'll keep it for a while.

So I said screw it and bought ADW Launcher EX and wow, it really is miles better than the free version. Ton's of customization, new and better dock bar, I love that you can change how many icons will fit on the screen.

I found LauncherPro kind of sluggish. Regular ADW isn't even close, ADW Launcher EX (the pay one) is amazing. You can select how many columns/rows you want for your screen and it will scale down the icons so they fit in that space. Choose 1-5 icons for the main launch bar. 8 different scroll effects for changing pages. Different themes available (some free) to change the look of everything. Even allows you to set swipe up and down on the home screen to basically anything you want (open an app, open notifications etc.)
Basically I found it's just got more customization than LauncherPro.

well after being a huge fan of the HTC Sense UI, i have to say that after spending some time with Cyanogen i've become won over. paired with ADW EX Android looks brilliant and the level of customization is unparalleled. i'm really looking forward to the first stable release of CM7, i'd give the nightly builds a shot but i don't feel like having to flash Clockwork mod back and fourth

what is rooting?
I just purchased the Droid 2 Global and today is the first day with it. I took it off the charger at 9 am and it was at 50% by 12:45.... I'm amazed with how fast it burns through the battery. hell I killed google maps but yet it's still running.

Check facebook, twitter, youtube, weather etc for how often they are set to update and disable or lengthen it. Also the first few days I found I was using my Galaxy a lot simply because it was new and exciting. Now I'm getting about a day and a half out of it.

Root is getting a lot more permissions than is normally allowed stock on the phone. It allows you to do other things like overclock your phone CPU, load custom ROMs onto it, do image back-ups of your phone, etc.
Those big LCDs also burn juice like theres no tomorrow. Turn down the brightness a lot too... Disable the wifi when you're away from home so it isn't always searching, etc. Like Hanni said... try to check the update frequency of some of your programs.

How are you capturing images of your phone like that?
I loved the 2.2 mods that were out there, they just lacked some of the polish of ROMS's that ran HTC Sense UI. If I could find a 2.2 ROM that had good calendar that synced nicely with Outlook 07, I'd be a pretty happy camper. Many of the 2.2 ROM's really seemed to be good on batter power too.
