Yes, the Peace River area is very nice. The Town of Peace River itself, however, would be fourth on my list of bad places. It's a nasty little zit on otherwise fantastic scenery.

I lived there for a year . . . . . but that was 30 years ago. When you're young, a great bar like The Travellers makes up for a lot of deficiencies. But I'd agree it's not a place most people would stay past their mid-20's.

One of the worst moments of my life happened in Peace River . . . . . I was standing in an electronics shop when Rick Monday bopped a home run off Steve Rogers and killed the Expos.

And I'd disagree about town's being desolate, dry and boring. While they may not have the super-exciting stuff to do like a big city, the freedom and openness of the place more than makes up for it. The ability to go quading, skidooing, anything with a simple phone call to a couple buddy's is awesome. The fact that you actually know your neighbours, their kids, and their kid's kids is great...being able to leave your car and house unlocked is awesome.

The silence (I don't think I heard a single siren in 18 years...if I did it was 5 miles away on the highway) and the true darkness at night is something I wouldn't trade for the world.

Let me cast a worst vote in for Bonnyville. Ugly oil town, in the summer Jessie lake smells like sewage. Actually St. Paul is pretty craptacular too. Cold Lake is nice though.

I think that most people who live in big cities don't really like small town because when they go visit them they don't have all the fun stuff that you need to do stuff in a small place. eg: Skidoos, Motorbikes, Quads, etc. You take all of that stuff away than yeah, it's pretty boring.

Haha, I've got lotsa friends from there, but man, what a hole. The Round Hill Hotel has gotta be one of the biggest dives around. And not the good kind of dive either. The one where you actually are concerned you're gonna piss off the Hell's Angels, since it's really just a cover for them. Just all in a all, a dive of a town.

The other couple places I'd have thrown on there would have been Daysland, but they've got the (albeit rather crappy) golf course and maybe a place like Hinton, just because of the smell coming off those lumber mills.

Exactly why I live on an acreage outside of Brissy now. Well, except the skidooing part. Also, is your bike a Honday CM70? Classic, if so.

Anyway, the southwest side of Alberta is up there with anywhere on earth.

My mother was raised in Round Hill! I have been to a few family rebellions there. Not too bad, for just a visit.

As for Forestburg, it's a nice little town. There are many attractions, Diplomat Mine Interpretive Site, Communitity historical walk, the Battle River Valley, Big Knife Park (HooDoo's), Battle River Generating Station (aka Cripple Creek), an excellent "small town" museum, mud bog competition, a really good pool (albeit, it's outdoor, a point of contention to the residents), decent golf course...

Lots of pride for small community living, Communities In Bloom National Champions, a few years back.

I feel bad that I don't go back there more often. Maybe once a year, if that. When I do go back it's usually a "booze cruise" with my friends who never left, it is getting old.

It's a CT 70 I think...so probably the same. In fact it looks exactly like this (except mine had the mirrors on it) same year (1977) and everything:



In fact, my grandpa has a little 90 cc banger kicking around somewhere in his shop too that looks just like this:



My cousin had the same bike as me, and man did we ever have a lot of fun on those things. Even with so little power, I managed to just about kill myself a couple of times (racing a friend at 70km/h + ruts in a field you don't see = flipping over the handlebars and hurting for a few days).

That's the one problem I find with it...as much as I love Bawlf, and as much as I'm sure I'll move back there pretty soon, it's sad to see some of my friends who never left, or did for only a tiny period of time...booze cruising is fun, but man is a lot of potential and that kind of stuff left on the table. Even a few of my friends who've gone to post-secondary still seem to have their blinders on towards the rest of the world...and it's sad really. There's a bunch more to do than get blasted on the weekends (although that's generally what I do anyways haha) but to be oblivious and outright racist just because you've never dealt with anybody who isn't white is pretty sad in this day and age.

Do you camp in porcupine hills? We take the horses up every year. Best place to camp ever.

Porcupine Hills are amazing. We had cows up there one summer and it was incredible going up there to round them up.

Pincher Creek ain't shabby either.
