36-25 USA in total medals. Just depends which side your own, how you want to spin it.

There are also way more countries and athletes competing as well, so it is tougher to win a medal that way also.

I usually go by "Olympic medals per capita."

Or "Olympic medals per taxpayer"

I hope all those bronze medals keep Colbert and his sheep warm at night.

We have the most golds, we won the most events, we win the games, period end of story.

10-1 USA - Canada in population, and funding/incentive for them is much higher.

Well:

a) it remains to be seen if other countries ramp up thier funding to women's programs and disciplines.

b)Success breeds success. Kids in this country was able to see this country compete and challenge in most events. As PM Harper said today on CTV, the country was 2nd in top 6 finishes, nevermind 2nd or 3rd in total medals.
Not just that, kids and the next generation of Olympians see the top finishes, medals, and gold medals across all sports in 2010, and may now want to take up something other then hockey as they grow up, and more talent to choose from means probably better athletes and results.
Kids also can aspire to also be on top of that podium just like they are seeing now in 2010, and not consider/be happy with personal bests or top 10 finishes like Canadian athletes in this country had to previously 10+ years ago in Olympics, as "success".

I think the American should learn to count the gold medals only to rank. Because there is only "one" winner which is the gold. How funny it would be if a country wins 50 bronze medals and ranked #1 because of that.

News reports out of other countries (China, Europe, etc) are claiming Canada to have won the medal race today.

This olympics, with the golden results that we've fought for are going to get more kids interested in all the sports. Even skeleton guy who just went out for whatever sport he could excel at is a source of inspiration for them. I hope they keep up the "own the podium" program, or at least they continue some sort of program to help develop young potential.

Fair enough, but let's not forget that there are much more athletes and countries competing as well. If the number of events really did matter, the record should have been broken significantly a while ago. The fact that it's only been tied twice (including this year) to me shows that it's an incredible feat, by all three nations.
