The problem of gangs will only get worse, and it will not be limitted to 'Asians'. I work in Ontario's Jail system, and have seen members of all types of gangs go through. We have seen the Hells Angels/Outlaws biker gangs, Jamaican and Persian Posses, the Silverboys (Vietnamese) and New Triads, Tamil Warlords, AK47 (also Tamil), Vatos Locos (Central American), Los Tigres (Columbian), Malvern Boys, Galloway Boys, Scarborough Boys (linked to Compton Crips), and the Native Brotherhood or FOTR (Friends of the Rez). An Eastern European connection did exist, and so did a Greek Mafia, but their numbers have dwindled drastically.
These guys seldom suffer while in custody, because they quickly team up inside too. The kill over drug trade, prostitution, protection money, girls, turf, and in some cases membership. The Persian Posse has a membership initiation that includes rape/murder. It is tough to get arrests, because the veil of silence that they create by intimidation, but they do happen.
