On good, another Rick Bell article on the bridge.

Guy's such a .

I can't wait for the bridge to be finished. It's these little touches around the city that make living here more enjoyable. I'm sure SAIT could have saved a lot of money by not putting that cool cloud covering around their parking garbage, or a soccer field on the top... but it makes the c-train ride past it not horrible.

I wonder how hard he would have gone after the Calgary Tower if it was being built not.

That being said, I really wish the bridge controversy would die. I think it's just a magnet for people to complain about city council. Is the bride a necessary expenditure? Not really. But just give it up....
Brides are expensive, but not really necessary, though my bride would probably disagree.

Too bad that you're ignoring the important parts of the articles...

The bridge is only a small part that matters to some. The rest should matter to all of us.

It is hard to believe that there isnt a certain minimum contract value which requires at least some tendering. Say anything over 1mil?

I am not surprise the bridge wasnt tendered given who the major backers on council were. They are like many who think that just because someone splashes some paint on a canvass that its a work of art just because of what he/she did in the past.

Given this citys inferiority complex with larger more cosmpolitan cities it makes perfect sense why they went with Calavatra. You cant have someone from a pidly city like Calgary design a pedestrian bridge that isnt really needed given the relatively low population density in Sunnyside.

Also I still dont believe the whole memorial angle. If the bridge was part of a larger more expensive project than fine, but its not, it is the larger more expensive project. The rest seems like it was an afterthought to sell the bridge.
