I know this is gonna sound like I'm being an a-hole, but I really don't mean it that way. I'm being genuine when I ask: Who buys a used microwave? Really? The MOST expensive microwave Walmart sells is two-fiddy. A nice stainless steel model comes in at a hundred less than that.
Again, not trying to be a ######, the whole thing just strikes me as weird.
I buy things used fairly often, but it would never even cross my mind to buy a used microwave.
I'd say lesson learned and move on, but of course it would be nice if the seller came through and helped out somewhat. I wouldn't say, though that <removed> should feel obliged.

Reason: Removed name.
I was holding out hope I could gat a copy of the reciept and claim the whole thing under warranty. The service rep said I could claim all costs back if I had the reciept.
Exactly, I don't think this thread is fair to him at all.
That you actually didn't exchange it at Home Depot raises an eyebrow for me; I've exchanged things at Home Depot without a receipt before, a number of times.
You knew you weren't getting a receipt when you purchased it so there's no complaint here. You never made an agreement as to what would happen if it was defective when you got home, and you accepted the test done as sufficient, so no grounds for complaint there either.
You bought it and accepted the terms of the sale, if you wanted different terms then you do so when you buy it, not after you later decide the terms aren't favorable to you.

Had an exact situation like this with some couches awhile back. Buyer was complaining that the couches smelled of smoke & exhaust (from sitting in my garage) but drove off with them anyway.
Then about a week later he calls my wife complaining about the smell of the couches. I said he was SOL and I am not obligated to refund him.
