But the company that hosts the blog gets nothing? Or they are taking a share of your adsense return?
I would not be surprised if they are able to leverage all of that traffic and those blog views into better overall ad prices over using your own server/host? As well as favourable search engine placement. Makes sense...
They use volume to drive up revenue/click say 20%, then take 40% of the total -- with the end user more than happy with 60% of a lot of clicks than 100% of few clicks?
hmmmm

I think overthinking this .....
However in my case I use Blogspot which I am pretty sure Google owns. I only say this because when you sign up its ask if you want to receive offers and emails from google to improve your blog.
However the way I understand it is , Google is getting paid a bazillion dollars from other companies to advertise for them. Google lets these blogs use the ads and pays them by the clicks. Google gets paid and the blogger gets paid. It has a page that shows
How many impressions the ads have gots ( or page views)
How many clicks
CLick %
How much money your making per 1000 impressions
How much money you have.
I am under the understanding that one you have reached the 100 dollar threshold , they send you a check. If at the end of the month you have reached say only 60 bucks... They roll the balance over to the next month.
The crappy thing is they collect your tax info so you have to pay taxes on the money . lol !

Google is already taking their cut.
If you make $1.00/day, the actual earnings from ads are probably higher, maybe $1.20/day. Google is just taking that $.20 and pocketing it before your numbers show up.
How many clicks are you getting Nick? You get an alright sum from impressions, but if you get people that always click on your ads you'll get a lot more. I'm thinking that because your ads actually have a LOT to do with what you're blogging about, and the people visiting will REALLY be interested in them you'll get more clicks, and also more money.
Hell, I was just browsing through it for fun, saw an ad for something, clicked on it and actually spent about 20 min on that site.

I have had 140 clicks since last sat night. I dunno if that is in real time or not. I havent made much today. It seems to ebb and flow. I have made as little at 1.09 a day and as much as 10.14 a day...
It seems like all my ads are about hockey , so they do a good job matching ads. It could be why I am getting clicks since all my teammates and their buddies and families are going on there and reading . They see some hockey ad to the right and want to learn about hockey...
I just wonder how they track the clicks. Obviously you cant click your own ads, as they make mention of this as you sign up. You always cant suggest clicks or pay for people to click your stuff.. There were a few others rules as well.

Google does not collect tax info for residents who live outside the US.
Once you reach $100, your payment is processed by the 15th of the next month and you should recieve it at the begining of the next month.

I have nothing to add on the business side, but this seems like a difficult thing to hide from a girlfriend...sooner or later she's going to find out. But I guess if your on a first name basis with a herd of strippers, you'll be alright.

140 clicks is very good. That means that the ads Google is serving up are getting a good response which would be why you're making so much money.
And trust me, for a blog that young it is a lot of money.

Can't you choose to receive your money when you make $50?

Oh. Cause Google sent me a pin number the other day saying I should put it in to collect my payments.
Unless I misunderstood it.

Ah. You get your pin once you reach a certain amount then your first payment is processed once you reach $100.

I don't quite know how to phrase this question so as to not get strong emotional response from mac haters/lovers...
I am creative and remotely tech savy but have never been able to put my ideas into the digital format I invision my head without the fuss of sorting through weird menus and fighting format issues. Lately it seems more and more software is intuitive enough to do so but because I spent years avoiding it I now feel like I need to play catch-up.
Are Macs actually better/more intuitive for building basic slick looking websites then the other options out there?
I like the ease offered by the blog sites but feel a bit constrained too? Seems hard to get that slick looking feel of amateur sites generated on a Mac.
Any other options? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Claeren.

someone opened up a can of worms.. I use a mac but i have bootcamp loaded with windows on it as well... so i get the best of both worlds... I am interested in peoples opinions on this as well.
Hey Claeren , most of the hosting sites also offer a site builder feature that might help you as well . However I dont know which sites are created with it so i can comment on their slickness lol!

Some of those site builders are hard to use if you have no experience with anything in that area. My wife uses iWeb to do some stuff and if she can figure it out and make a decent looking webpage (relatively speaking) then I think anyone can use iWeb.

Has nothing to do with Mac vs. PC. The tools are essentially the same and equally useless if you have no understanding of web technologies.
If you're looking for an easy way to create a website without having to learn html, CSS etc, Check out: Squarespace
You can get started right away and dive further into things like css and html if you want as you need to.

I do understand that, it just seems from what I have seen amongst my friends that people who have Mac's seem to actually 'do stuff'.
And doing stuff is a big part of proving how easy the entire process from start to finish must be?
In my experience PC products match Macs in individual areas but Macs work together to form a complete amateur-assisting-creative-experience that works from beginning to end without any hiccups?
Are there challenges with Mac's I dont see, like maybe trouble with Adsense integration or something?
Or maybe I am missing out on tools on PC's that are out there and I don't know about? I don't want to buy a lot of parts to make a whole though....
I will check that site you linked though,
Claeren.

Adsense for me anyway is just a html code the google gives you to put within the codes of your site. I use a mac and it was a cinch for me. I didnt build my site but i think putting the code into your site is just as easy as putting in a code!

^ but you can customize the location of the adsense blurbs no? Or do you find the code for the format you want (vertical, horizontal, 3 or 4 or 5 blurbs, etc) and then insert that code?
Claeren.
