I dated quite a few men who were older than my mother. As a young woman I much preferred older men.

And for some shock value my mother married when she was 16 and my father was 48. They were happily married until he died of cancer 10 years later.

Ideally, If I were 33, I would get older and she would stay the same age.

Your buddy realizes that all the other 19 yr old "kids" are making fun of him and his girlfriend behind their back every time they leave the room, right?

Maturity does not equate to age. My teenage kids are more mature than their mom. Consider this scenario: I know a guy in his mid-40's who was recently approached by a 21-22 yr old woman to be 'friends', but her actions may indicate she might be looking to a future relationship. Age is certainly a mitigating circumstance, but all indications are she is more mature than her peers. Does the man let maturity level or age difference dictate his next move?

Not true, it varies by state but 18 is the oldest age of consent.

addition to the maturity point I was trying to make: Young women of 18-25 years of age are often much more mature than their male counterparts, but the boys eventually mature into men and close that gap. The problem for some young women is there is no one they want to date in their age range when they are that age, so they often seek older men. (Maybe not decades older, but older.) Lady at work is 24, living with a 41 year old for over a year and they seem happy.

Um, didn't they just raise the age of consent from 14 to 16? 16 would be bad enough, but 14?

Though I guess from 33, there's not much difference between 14 and 16.

From what I've experienced and seen, the bigger the age gap, the more being needy / golddigging / religious becomes the x-factor.

I'm 26; I wouldn't go near an 18-19 year old. Way too young, don't know what they want and still in "party girl" mode.

Acceptable age-difference formula:

Which means... the age of the girl is LESS than or equal to half the age of the dude + 7

Wow...

14 year gap, quite a difference. If she's mature enough (physically AND mentally) I see no problem. If she's still acting like a kid, no way.

I'm not a fan of poachers as I call them. Its pretty sad if chicks around your age can't take you seriously enough to date you. Plus most chicks dating much older men have cash and daddy issues.

I think you have to get away from generalizations, numbers, etc. For most of the population, such a wide age gap would be a problem, but a mature younger person (or immature older person) can make the age gap insignificant. It would be the exception to the rule, but it does happen. (Also know a 40 yr old woman dating a 26 yr old guy, works both ways).
