What's with the Postal Service cover on Garden State? The soundtrack is good but IMO that song was butchered.

What's funnier, is TPS version of the song is what you hear on the trailers!
The song in the movie actually is The Postal Service. That version of Such Great Heights appeared as a B-side on one of their singles. [/b][/quote]
Ya but it's also on the Garden State soundtrack. Track11, Such Great Heights- Iron And Wine.

It's Iron and Wine covering the postal service, which I think is a pretty good cover.

I highly recommend the Iron and Wine cd The Creek Drank the Craddle it's folk excellence.

His newer cd is also quite good.

I gotta say Fleetwood Mac, Rumors.
Ugh, I thought we were talking about songs that would convert someone, not make them break their radio.

Also from the Garden State CD, "Let Go" by Frou Frou
It's an awesome song.
Probably my favourite song on the album, such a great song. Great movie too.

The whole Keane CD. Honestly, one of the best debut albums I've heard in a LONG time. They're my favourite band now.

"No Beginning No End" or "Jealous of Your Cigarette" by Hawksley Workman.

If you ever get the chance to see this guy live, do it.

'Konstantine' by Something Corporate.

Its a piano ballad by a GREAT punk-emo band.

I have yet to introduce this song to anyone, and have it rejected.
HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!

Muse - Time is Running Out. I don't think I've ever put this song on and not had everybody in the room tapping their foot or whatever. And with Muse, it only gets better from there..

hmmmm, how about some obscure stuff

DW40 - Trunk full of Funk (doubt you'll find it on KaZaa or any of them, local band from home)

Patio - Slowcoaster (again local band, but should be findable)

Paris - Gordie Sampson (It's a slow song that I'm a HUGE fan of, again local Cape Bretoner, but you ~might~ have heard of him... this song was recorded by Faith Hill as well, and might be on her next album)

oh and not so obscure:

The River - Garth Brooks (well it worked for me)

Phish, Gin and Juice... I have no idea if it would convert someone to Phish, but it is freaking hilarious... funniest (and maybe best) cover I've ever heard.

If I hadn't already converted before I heard that song, it would have done it for sure. The week I found out it was a cover, I randomly heard two different versions within two days. It was crazy. Snoop Dogg did the original, and the other was a mellow jazz version I heard at the Ship and Anchor. Neither of them have ANYTHING on the Phish cover, though.

Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman - The Darkness
Best description ever: "Falsetto-Spandex-Hair-Metal-Chernobyl !!!"
... and with a line like "Octopi you've got six hands too many and you can't keep them to yourself" how could you NOT like it??!!

I Only Want You - Eagles of Death Metal
don't let the name scare you, its about as far from Death Metal as you can get.

Can't Stand Me Now - The Libertines
not sure I buy the hype around these guys, but its a good song.

'Michael' & 'This Fire' - Franz Ferdinand

Snow Patrol is a band I've really gotten into the last week or so. 'Run' and 'Chocolate' are two pretty good songs. Not real heavy, but pretty catchy.

For older stuff, most people know Van Morrison because of 'Brown Eyed Girl', which is a great song, but 'Into The Mystic' is a really cool, mellow tune. Very relaxing song.
