I could handle the pants... but would she have to change her hairstyle? Not sure I could handle that.

As for playing the upper end of the neck... I have no idea. Does a lot of music require you to play those notes?
I think you will be fine without the cutaway. I never go that high on mine. Its not that comfortable to do anyways on an accoustic.

I rarely go up that high on my electric unless I am soloing either.

Well, I took the plunge and ended up buying the Yamaha FG700MS for $264 at Mothers Music.

Every review I've read about the FG700 series gave them glowing reports .... terrific bang for your buck apparently (they say it sounds just as good if not better than many guitars that cost twice as much and they continuously say that it is definitely the best sounding guitar in this price range). Also, the price was pretty much bang on with what I wanted to spend.

Quote:
Considering the FG700MS’s intended market and retail price, it is designed and built to an exceptionally high standard. With its simple and straightforward appearance and construction, with all components including the tuners being of a surprisingly high quality, it exceeds expectation on all levels.

The neck is very well set up and is a joy to play. The tone this guitar produces might not be competing with that of guitars of a much higher asking price. However, the FG700MS comes in at a shocking £175 RRP. Peanuts! This guitar will stand up bravely to some other manufacturers’ models which ask for double the FG700’s retail price. There are no signs of sloppy machining or badly finished cosmetics or workmanship.

With its classic body size, design, playability and surprising tone, the FG700MS is living up to the legacy of its predecessors with the FG tag. Suitable for all playing styles: try one, you will not be disappointed.

Now that I've done all this research and gotten so involved with picking out the right guitar for my wife, I almost just want to keep it for myself....

Anyways, I think my wife will really like it come Christmas morning..... just like I'm going to like the new set of golf clubs I'm going to buy on Boxing Day

Btw, thanks everybody for all the advice and information. You were a great help. I learned a lot.... especially on where not to shop for a guitar.... cough cough Guitarworks cough cough.

OH... just an example of Guitarworks outrageous pricing.... they are asking $169 for this Fender acoustic guitar starter set and the same set is available at Axe for $109. I probably would have bought the Yamaha at Axe if they carried the Yamaha brand. I'm happy with Mothers though. Their pricing seams reasonable.
