What's the point? Why not just transfer the funds online from one account to the other? It's a lot less work than needing to work an extra week to make up the $400 you might potentially lose.

Really, if you're that worried about it, the solution is simple instead of waiting on maybes from other people.

If you are fully convinced that you got scammed, then yes transfer it to another account. Although this might be taken as failure to make a payment and might screw up your credit. I am not 100% sure, so you should check into that.

I also worked at a bank for a few months years back, and I know that if you can't make a payment out of a designated account, then the bank has the right to take the money out of another account. That or a credit card that you have with a bank. Either that, or you can have the money appear in the different acount today and then come tomorrow you see the transaction to transfer it to the account cancelled and the payment to paypal went through. I hope that makes sense.

You should call your bank and tell them specifically not to allow that transaction to go through. Tell them that it was a scam and it's being investigated right now, or something along those lines.

The seller would have to make a report to the credit bureau- I have never seen an "NSF" show up on my credit report.

To the OP- yes I would say that the transaction would not be showing up yet as most banking like bill payments, automatic debits, etc take place at a certain point during normal business hours. I would make sure you either have some sort of "Stop payment" in place with your bank (as well as the backup funding source); or drain your accounts.

Or both.

Transfer it to another account, and if you have a CC Linked to the account make sure you contact your card and tell them to block paypal payment.

the key to using paypal on non ebay transactions is paying via a credit card. The reason being you can always do a chargeback through the credit card company. It takes a lil while to get the cash back but if you file one you will get your money back . I would never use my bank account to pay for anything over the internet for the purpose of the chance of what has happened to you.

I would contact my bank and stop payment on said bill ....

I'd phone the 1-800 number on the back of my debit card and talk to the bank people directly.

Why wait? The longer you wait the more of a chance he will get the money. Who cares if you have to pay a $35 (or whatever it is) NSF it means nothing besides it costing you $35 instead of $400.

The longer you wait, the worse it is going to get for you! I'd log on right now to you back right now and do it. I have never been scammed like this before however one time I bought something off ebay and just after paying realized the seller was an idiot and put down the wrong Product # so I was paying $1100 for something that didn't fit for my car.

I emailed him, he told me too bad I should have read it closer. So I told him to pound sand and took all my money from my Checking to Savings and called my bank to make sure my overdraft would not kick in anymore. Worked like a charm and my bank only charged me $5 because it was the first time I ever had a NSF.

DO IT NOW!!!!!

PS Also be sure to phone your credit card company on your paypal and ask them to put it on hold until you call back with further instructions.

I dont think you've been working at that bank for very long as a bank is to NEVER take funds out of a client's credit card account based on defaults on a bank account

It's dangerous to be giving improper banking advice based on "maybes" and "I think"

Did you read his post?

Also if the bank doesn't do it, Paypal will for sure!

Ok so I drained my chequeing account and transferred it all to the savings. Its pretty amazing to me how fast you can transfer money on the web, and somewhat scary.

I guess we will see how this plays out in the coming few days, im contacting my VISA card as we speak. Thanks for all the information guys, I will keep posted with updates in the coming days. I would love to meet this guy face to face and just ask him how he sleeps at night...I feel dumb I fell for such a scam.

Don't worry about it we all fall for too good to be true things now and then. I think people were giving you a hard time because if you would have posted this before sending the money there is no question you wouldn't have to do all this. But as others say, live and learn. I wouldn't feel too dumb over $400, if you had signed over your house, then you might have problem.

If anything you taught some others on this board an important lesson for their internet purchases. Personally now I usually only buy something on the internet if it is less than $200 or so, then if you get scammed it's no big loss.

Hopefully everything works out for the best. I would also contact your bank just to let them know so they don't do something stupid and think you want it out of your savings or something. Banks and credit card companies deal with this everyday so their advice is important as well.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

I worked with a guy who paid $500 for an empty box from Ebay. The picture of the new cell phone did only show the box. It did not say anything about a phone being in the box.

read it over again, you might see it

regardless, it's still bad information and to use his time at the bank as credibility makes it even more dangerous

Sorry but youre just wasting your time, why even bother? Its 2 months after this all happened. I can gaurentee you he read your email and is sitting there laughing while looking at his brand new TV that you helped pay for.

And you should have posted this earlier, waiting 2 months is going to be near impossible to get your $ back.

He worked at a back for a few months......years back.

Not worked at a back for months, years.
it makes sense as he's giving a general idea of when he last worked at a bank.

and while you're nit picking at wording, what's working at a "back"?
