Only ONE trilogy can!

Trilogies can have 5 parts??
If you read the book you'll understand. Anything can happen when HHG is involved.

I believe the tag-line for book five was worded something like:

"Book five in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy."

I always loved the way that was phrased. Very adamsesque.

Read the long version of the "bad" review (which is about 1/5th the size of the entire first book!). Basically he seems to not like the movie because every scene, line and interpretation from the book is not on the big screen. He goes through a lot of trouble telling us exactly what isn't in the movie but sums it up in only about 20 points..some of which are parially missing scenes/dialigue. He seems to be nit picking. It's a book going to a 90-120 minute movie...there are going to be things left out and lost. Some things in a book do not translate to the screen. Not to mention Adams was constantly revising the story for different formats in the first place and this is based primarily on his screenplay. Just seems to be one of those guys who is not seeing the movie as a movie but as something that can't possibly live up ot his expectations in the first place and is missing some of his favourite parts. He wants the book read to him as pictures play on the screen he doesn't want to watch a movie.

Who knows if the movie is any good. It is most likely a movie that will not get good reviews in the first place because 1) you have critics like this guy who won't see it as a stand alone movie and will want every little detail in the book on the big screen and crucify it when it misses a line or scene; and 2) the bulk of the population, critics included, do not like Douglas Adams' writing or the humour in the HHGTTG 'trilogy' in the first place.

The reviews are coming in

Basically you have a few categories of reviewer: 1) the reviewer who didn't like the books and surprise doesn't like the movie; 2) the reviewer who loves the book (or orginal radio series or TV series) way too much and wants everything in the book in the movie nothing more nothing less and as a result doesn't like the movie; 3) the critic that loves the series in all its forms too much and seems to love this movie because well they "have to"; 4) the critic unfamiliar with the book/radio series/TV series; and 5) the critic familiar and a fan of the Guide that can look at each incarnation as separate and different from the last.

Basically I discount much of what the reviewers that fall in categories 1,2 and 3 have to say. For the other two types the consensus seems to be that it's a decent to good movie (admitedly only 17 reviews thus far when it will end up with 100+ sometime tomorrow). Of note in the british reviews the BBC reviewer did not like the movie at all.

Well, I've never personally read the book, (actually, I've never even HEARD of it before reading about it on CP), so I went and saw the flick last night to see what all the hype was about.

I thought the movie was brilliant. It came across as a bit of a blend of humour types, one being the dry, witty "English" style, mixed with a little in your face, slap stick "American" style. While I imagine this movie is not going to appeal to everybody, anyone with a bit of a twisted sense of humour will laugh their ass off. Marvin was gut busting hilarious, as well as some of the ridiculous lines and events that were written in.

"Run away....he's got a towel!!!!"

I'd recommend it to anyone, it's a really neat story line with some pretty hilarious, almost "campy" special effects. Worht the $12 or whatever it is they charge for movies nowadays.

I saw the movie this weekend too. I actually remember laughing a lot more when I read the books, but that being said, I still found the movie funny. Worth the $12 kinda funny.

Arthrur: "Any ideas Marvin?"
Marvin: "I have a million. They all lead to certain death."

Piers Anthony's first Xanth trilogy ended up being 9 novels.

So long and thanks for all the fish,
So sad that it should come to this,
We tried to warn you all oh dear,
You may not share our intellect,
Which may explain your disrespect,
For all the natural wonders that grow around you,
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish
