Personally I think you are a full of **** in those rules and most if not all would appreciate that I see the poppy and think about them daily instead of a week and a half. These are just things that you think should be and not be.

I used to volunteer at a police station and one of the officers was a vet, not from WW but a vet none the less. I wore my poppy after November 11th and he said it was against the rules of the poppy and shown as disrespectful, so I took it off.

If that's the case I will no longer be donating or wearing a poppy going forward. If they feel 11 days is enough for them to be remembered good on them, personally I want to them to be remembered 365 days a year.
I'll take out the pin and let my car chew on it as a toy for a while and then trash it.

Fair enough, We obviously both feel strongly about this. I'm disappointed that this issue has altered your actions regarding Canada's annual remembrance.
Showing your respect outwardly is one thing, believing it in your heart is completely another and I respect that.

It's all about respect my good sir. You choose not to respect their wishes?
...I think that shows ignorance.

Wait, so who made the rules? A select few Legion members?
I know that my grandfather, one of the people who earned the right to make whatever rules they want, wore his poppy with a flag pin so that it didn't fall off.

FYI
Veterans Affairs Canada says poppies can be worn from the beginning of the poppy drive, which this year was Oct. 30.
The annual campaign begins "on the last Friday of October and (poppies) can be worn at any time after that date," Veterans Affairs says on its website.
But it adds: "Although it is tradition for the poppy to be worn only during the annual Remembrance period, a person may wear a Poppy any time he or she wishes to do so."
Canadian military personnel have traditionally always worn the poppy on their headress be it a wedge, beret etc., until the fiasco of the late 90's, anyways. I think the rest of the commonwealth still does.

^ I was just repeating what I heard an 80+ Veteran on television saying.
I thought what he said made everything quite simple. He also stated that seeing people with Poppies on their "Ball Caps" was actually viewed as disrespectful.
As far as "Trademark" & "Copyright" goes, I think the whole point of this Poppy issue and how and when and who uses it, is basically one of those "un written" rules that doesn't need to be entered into legally. If more people simply respected the Vets wishes, it would not be an issue.
I suppose the day will come when the Legion has to patent the Poppy. Sad but true.

Can you ask your grandfather if it is disrespectful of me to have my poppy on my visor in my car so I see it 365 days a year? While also buying one during the traditional time to wear them on my clothing.

I think I might celebrate Remembrance Day with...
a cupcake
Of course I'll need a plate to put my cupcake on
Some beer would be nice
And maybe pour the beer in a mug
Maybe I'll wear this shirt too...

In a word, yes.
The owners of the Big Bird design should receive royalties if someone profits from baking a Big Bird cake. That's why they sell cake kits with all of the necessary materials to make one, it ensures the rights owners get paid.
Also, there are stores that rent licensed cake pans if you want a Big Bird shaped cake. They sell for a lot more than a normal cake pan because part of the money goes back to the copyright owner.
Does every bakery in the world pay royalties to Sesame Street every time they bake a Big Bird cake? Probably not, but that doesn't change the law or the fact that they could receive a cease and desist order from Big Bird's lawyers if they violate his copyright.

meth, get out of your ivory tower, if someone wants to have a poppy on their sunvisor all year or wear a poppy on their hat during the appropriate period, I don't know ANY vets that would have a problem with that and I know a LOT of vets. The donations received is the most important part.
As for the legion's stance on the cookies, it's BS as far as I'm concerned. As mentioned, I'm pretty sure you can't copyright the look of a flower. If I was the owner of that bakery, I would fulfill the order and take my chances in court.

Didn't see this quote from the story posted so I'll throw it up...
'Imagine even the suggestion that a Cobourg bakery, fulfilling the order of some poppy cookies for the family of a fallen Canadian soldier from the Afghanistan conflict, would be breaking the copyright rules for the poppy?'
Apparently they weren't trying to 'profit' of it by making their own, they were just fulfilling an order. As well, the order was for a family of a fallen soldier.
I can understand not wanting business to profit off it, but in this case it seems over-zealous and kinda silly. Not to mention they seem to be disrespecting one of their own.

Two points:
1) I keep seeing "poopy shaped cookies", and no one should really sell those.
2) I bought my poppy from (I assume) a veteran on October 28 at the Flames' game that night at the Saddledome. So they were already out in full force.
