Money and family is fine, if it's to a sibling or a parent, but an uncle, aunt, cousin.. hell no.

You almost deserve to be burned on this so you don't do something this stupid again. I'm really truly sorry to say that, but it's true.

I hope you can prove us all wrong with a pic of said breasticles and good credit in the future.

I haven't actually done anything stupid yet, haven't signed anything. Was just looking to help, but didn't think in a million years that it would be for augmentation.

Anyways case closed, I am not co signing. She finally admitted it was for a breast augmentation since feeding 3 kids took its toll. I said I was sorry for giving the wrong impression. She seemed to understand.

Did you give that any thought at all? A family with 3 kids that is already living paycheque to paycheque... is somehow going to increase their debt load and make even more payments to you/bank? Where did you think the money would be coming from? Even if your Aunt was going to use her new found glories to supplement the families income and pay you back, I'd be running away.

Tell her you have to back out of the deal to co-sign because you're getting a boob job. But don't say boob job, say Breast Implants.

Yes. This is my motto (when it comes to matters of family and money, that is).

There is a web-site where strangers will pay for your boob job. Allegedly.

Only a little quid pro quo.

When you cosign on a loan, it's really not cosigning, but backing the loan equally as the other people on the note. It's really a joint note.

If they default, you need to make the payments (and it will effect your credit too with I2's). If it goes to the point of collection the financial institution would probably seek a judgement against you as well as them if collecting on the collateral didn't cover the principle and legal costs of collecting said collateral.

I work in lending for a living and I can give you a few tips.

1: As much as banks prefer co-signers to be related to you, a relative is the most likely person to leave you high and dry contrary to what people think. Also a relative is the most likely person to cover a bad debt for a credit risk.

2: Someone willing to take a loan for a very impulsive and non necessary item, is what i would consider a high credit risk. Personally I would never co-sign for something as superficial as a breast augmentation.

3: Someone unable to secure financing for such a small loan is definitely a massive credit risk. There are numerous sub prime lenders that will take people mere days out of bankruptcy. Suggest to her she look for a high interest sub prime lender. If nobody will take her on, you should absolutely NOT cosign. If it is truly important to her, she will be willing to pay 29.9% interest to get her boobs. It may make her think twice.

4: Do not allow her to guilt trip you. People with bad credit are good manipulators, and will dream up the most ludicrous sob stories to get their way, and have a million excuses as to how its everyones fault than their own.

hope this helps

Good choice not co-signing on that. Now go buy her a package of balloons as a consolation prize, kind of a do-it-yourself kit.

Do they live in Canada or the US?

Personally I would say no. That fact the aunt is coming to you suggests she thinks she can take advantage of you. There is a reason some people cannot get credit on their own - because they are bad with money.
