riderfans.com is by far the funniest site on the web - about 75% of the current threads are about Burris - he's coming back, he loves Regina, he's a traitor, he's a greedy little bitch, well at least we'll get Khari, Nealon rules - screw Burris, Calgary media's to blame, let's start a petition, can we put a cap on Burris threads, blah blah blah - just taking it overboard.
...I can't wait to mozey on over there when CGY kicks the crap out of the Riders this season B-)
|
Oh man, I know, talk about bi-polar, hey???
I'll love rubbing Stamps wins in their faces this coming year; I know I'm going to get banned from the trolling I'll be doing. [/b][/quote]
I know some of you don't like posts from the other side but here goes - bring it on, I can take! B-)
First off, I won't defend some of the posts made on riderfans - that's the great thing about these boards - you can spout off and be ridiculous under the comfort of anonymity. Alot of the bashing towards Hank is ridiculous and should be deleted IMO. Anway - to my point(s) - Rider fans love the Riders. It's the only pro team we got and so a great majority of Saskatchwanites(?) are passionate about the team. And most aren't dumb (no jokes!) when it comes to football - they can see through the light through the trees here. Option A - Burris and Greene. Option B - Green and Crandell/Butler/Jones. The difference between these two options makes the Riders and GC contender or just a playoff team again.
I think the part that has a lot of Rider fans fired up is A) the point above and B) alot of the comments Burris made in the Saskatchewan media since the end of last year. This has been the #1 sports story in Sk since the CFL season last year and Burris has said on numerous occassions he wants to be Saskatchewan among other things about returning to Regina. It almost made it sound he was close to re-signing with the Riders and now that he's hit free agency - well...it's driven some interesting discussions over on Riderfans to say the least. Now, the reports out of the Calgary media (and Marty York) have increased 'tension' to a new level - although I never believe a thing Marty York or Eric Francis writes...
I would guess the situation would be similar on the hockey forum here if the situation was with Iggy. Hypothetically speaking - Iggy has said all along he wants to stay in Calgary and then goes to free agency. All of the sudden, the Rangers fly into the mix (after saying they were going to pre-FA). Now, the Flames have made a generous offer and as a fan, you hope like hell Iggy will return to help Calgary finish the Cup run like last year (and without Iggy, the Flames aren't likely to repeat that success) but you know at any minute, the Rangers could offer another million per season and he's gone. Flames fans would be upset - some would say that Iggy is doing what's best for his family, others would hate him for leaving Calgary.
This is the current situation with Burris. I hope like hell he signs with the Riders but understand why he may not - hard turn down an extra $100K per year if it were offered. Football careers are short. But as a Rider fan - it ticks you off because when it comes to $$$, we can't compete with Stamps, Eskies, Argos of the CFL. Neither can Winnipeg or Ottawa. I've always said - and I'm not a big Flames or Oilers fan - but if either of those two teams left the NHL, that would be the day I quit watching NHL hockey. Well, if the Riders left the CFL due to financial troubles resulting from free spending owners elsewhere, the same applies. That's another discussion all together however which I won't get into - this post is long enough...
Anyway - sorry for the novel - a response from the 'other' side on this whole Burris thing. Flame away if you wish...

Bench Warmer - sounds fair, I don't blame ya. On my side of the coin: everything that's happening over there is hilarious because I hate the Riders...one poster said it best over there: the 5 stages of grief are 1) Denial, 2) Anger 3)Bargaining 4)Depression 5)Acceptance. Right now it seems they're in the bargaining stage. And that's funny to me. Just like if an Oiler fan was watching the Iginla situation you described, I'm sure they'd find it funny too.
Kinda unrelated, but I've posted there only a handful of times to ask an honest question about the ridershares program and bring a different perspective (I think it's an expensive donation, but said it nicer), and all I got was venom about 'supporting the team' and what not - generally not a nice place, for the most part, to post if you're not a Rider fan....which make s it funny to watch everything that's happening there right now (for me).
I hope I didn't come across as too much of a jackass there

If I were a fan of another team, I'd find it funny too. Honestly, it's gettin' ridiculous. Everyone needs to relax and wait til Burris signs - then we can dish out the love or venom. And don't worry about being a jackass over there (although I never thought you were) - I may have been one a time or two myself.
And actually, I agree with you on the share program. Probably another discussion - all in all, I think it's a great, structured way to get $$$ for the team. I've seen the player facilities (dressing room, weight room, etc.) at Taylor Field - they need an upgrade to say the least.

Don't get too excited yet...the guy who reported it has a track record for having 'Marty York' type reports...but it does sound like he's going to sign with the Stamps...

Haha, I know. I made a post on riderfans.com that got deleted because I pulled up their quotes about Burris pre-FA and showed their hypocracy.
I hope their team goes down in Flames with Greene at the helm, I just love hearing the crying and whining coming out of there.

I just checked out the site. I think they have three different Burris petitions going, one of them anti-Hank.

Yea, I'm pretty sure it's done. A bunch sure are in denial though...some are angry...some are accepting it...some think he wasn't that good anyways. They're an emotional (passionate) bunch over there. Can't wait 'till we play 'em this year!!!

Congrats you guys - it will help your team alot. Big blow to the Riders and us fans I must say but what can you do. We made a good offer (great actually - would've been the highest paid Rider of all time) - that's all I wanted from Rider management.
Enjoy the season folks - should be a good one. I think 2nd place will be a battle between the Riders and the Stamps...
Just to weigh in on the Jones thing - wouldn't be surprised to see him land in Regina...

Wrong. First place will be a battle between BC and Calgary, with Winnipeg, Edmonton and Saskatchewan fighting for the last playoff spot. Don't forget that Calgary's defence was arguable the best in the CFL last year. They gave up a lot of points but a lot of that had to do with offensive turnovers and a lot of 2 and outs leading to bad field position. The offence has gone from bad to really good in a couple of weeks (Copeland and Burris) and it should be enough for them to challenge for first in the West. Maybe even first in the CFL.

Well, I don't agree with that but we shall see won't we? To bad we have to wait 4 months before the season starts. Let's argue then.

The weak point for the Stamps seems to be O-line. Taking Lumsden is the question now. If they take him it's a bit of a gamble as he could still be gone to the NFL. How he performs in the CFL is a bit of a question as well. IMO, trading the #1 pick seems the best choice. The could get first round pick as well as an established CFLer for a guy who may not play for your team if you take him anyways. The Canadian draft is the best way to build a solid O-line for now and the furure.

We are now a solid team, all around. O-Line will be our weakness, but granted it's not THAT bad.
I think I'm going to enjoy this up comming season.
