As a former repair technician with Telus, you stating that Telus will charge to send a tech out is completely false. The tech has full control over charges to the customer, and a general rule of thumb when I was a tech was there were no charges if it was out of there control. If you willingly did something (decided to melt all of your inside cabeling when repairing a cold water pipe...don't laugh it actually happened) then there would be charges applied. I know that the customer service agents inform customers that they CAN be charged, not that they WILL be charged when sending a tech out.

Because employees who were underpaid and hadn't received a raise in 5 years were concerned with the publics having to pay more for pay phone calls.

I'm in IT with a national company. Of all the ISPs I've dealt with in the past my favourite is Shaw.

The primary reason is in the support I recieve when we have an outage. We have 3 stores in BC with Telus, and when we have an outage I have to go through that muthereffing voice-menu system. Finding the least amount of button pushes to get a human has become an obsession with me!

Shaw makes it easy. I either get a human right away, or I get the call-back system after waiting 3 or 4 minutes.

As a company we have found DSL and cable to be about equally reliable (just our guestimate, not a scientific method), but I just get a lot less aggravation dealing with Shaw.

On a personal note, I have Shaw TV, internet and phone at home. I think it's worth re-evaluating Shaw's offers every two or three years. For instance, I want HD now. Two years ago it would have cost me an extra $30-$40 per month, and now it's almost on par with what I'm currently paying.
