The difference between watching TV and watching it on your ipod or computer, is that TV takes control of your schedule while cramming advertising down your throat. Watching the video on my ipod/computer takes away that advertising and lets me watch an episode before bed or as I am eating breakfast before going to work.

TV is going to be with you even more in the future. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8272003.stm "More than one tv capable device for every human on the planet".

The difference between watching TV and watching it on your ipod or computer is called splitting hairs. Does the use of a PVR mean watching a TV is not actually watching TV?

In which case, I watch less than an hour of TV a month!!!

I know that during hockey season I come home at 6 and turn on NHL center ice until about 10. That's 4 pretty easy hours.

Can you imagine what kind of people we would be if each household read for 8 hours per day?

Technology reduces our humanity to shadows.

Theo Fleury scoring that shootout goal felt like a pretty human moment to me.

I don't watch much TV. Sometimes I go days without even turning it on. But I still pay $88/mo for cable and a few specialty channels, because when I want to watch TV, I want to watch TV.
I don't think there's anything wrong with people that watch TV alot. I just don't understand how certain things are interesting or entertaining to people. You'd have to pay me to sit down and watch some of (what I deem to be) crap on TV these days. Dancing shows, singing shows, judges that rip people to shreds, reality crap with a bunch of people stabbing each other in the back... Not my cup of tea.

But I can still make a marathon out of watching TV. Give me a few shows about bridges, buildings, ships, crab fishing, heavy machinery, a 6 hour WWII documentary (thanks again, CC)... You know, the kind of stuff that other people think is mind numbingly boring.

Trad, just because you don't find any of that kind of stuff interesting, doesn't mean the rest of us are wasting our time by enjoying it.

I saw the thread on this docu. Where can one watch it? I don't have the channel that originally aired it (National Geo, I think). Is it on History Channel?

Meh ive been doing this for years... But i watch tv instead of sleeping... I find it more productive to watch discovery channel all night and learn useless information about everything rather then sleep for 1/3 of everyday.

Not exactly true. On Youtube, I watch lectures that were uploaded from a university in India. They are all quite fascinating. Not for 8 hours a day mind you, but Technology has it's benefits.
