I think the two most interesting games being at terrible times probably contributed to that.

The Riders playing at 11 am on a Saturday is going to draw less than normal numbers and the Calgary-BC late on Halloween night skews the numbers down a bit as well.

Have the Riders game on Friday night and the Stamps-Lions game on Sat or even Sunday afternoon and I think the numbers jump up back around normal type levels.

While it might not win, I bet the Sask/Cgy game on Sat night comes dangerously close to beating Leafs/Red Wings.

If it was Leafs/Florida or something I'd put my money on the CFL games to be top 2 for the weekend, and who knows maybe they still will be.

ahh, didn't realize they have a hd for the score channel, i guess they should. ill have to look but i don't think i have it, what channel is it?
not a biggie though, only thing i watch on the score is cis football.
playoff ratings will be huge i think, i think the nfl ratings will be constant, although this week may have been a bit of an aberation. CFL will jump into the million plus this weekend and beyond. the balt-pitts game will be a big game, but vs the Grey Cup it won't be close, like a reg season CFL game vs the superbowl

ok here are the numbers from last weekend, sorry for the format, the guy didn't post them so i had to find them somewhere else

Weekend numbers
Hockey: The surprise was the CBC’s 1.014 million for Scotiabank Hockey Night. That’s a big number for a pre-game show, aided, of course, by the new PPM measurement system. Still, the Hall of Fame content pulled them in.
Game 1, Detroit Red Wings-Toronto Maple Leafs, nationally, (Tampa Bay-Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils-Ottawa Senators regionally) drew 1.964 million.
Game 2 (New York Rangers-Calgary Flames) was watched by 877,000.
Regional games: Vancouver Canucks-Dallas Stars, Friday, Sportsnet Pacific, 365,000.
Edmonton Oilers-Colorado Avalanche, Sunday, Sportsnet West, 245,000.
CFL: Esks-Lions, Friday, TSN, 610,000.
Stamps-Roughriders, TSN, Saturday, 1.087 million.
Montreal Alouettes-Toronto Argonauts, Saturday, TSN, 434,000
Hamilton Tiger-Cats-Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Sunday, TSN, 712,000.
NFL: Sunday 1 p.m., CTV, regional telecast, 579,000
Sunday prime time, Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles, TSN, 598,000.
Basketball: Toronto Raptors-New Orleans Hornets, Friday, TSN, 380,000. A good Raptors audience.
Auto racing: NASCAR Dickies 500, 383,000.
Breeders’ Cup: Saturday, TSN, 326,000.
Figure skating: Grand Prix Japan, 2 p.m. ET Saturday, CBC, 249,000; Sunday, 314,000.
Speed skating: Short track World Cup, 5 p.m. ET, CBC, Saturday: 240,000; Sunday, 214,000.
Soccer: Aston Villa-Bolton, Sportsnet nationally, Saturday morning, 76,000.

quick update for the weekend CFL games, full weekend ratings coming later in the week(hopefully)

CFL Playoffs Deliver Record Audiences for TSN

– Edmonton @ Calgary attracts a record 1.55 million viewers –

– An average of 1.36 million viewers watched the BC @ Hamilton overtime thriller –

Toronto, ON (November 16, 2009) – The opening weekend of the CFL playoffs have delivered record audiences for TSN. Preliminary overnight data from BBM Canada confirms the highly anticipated battle of Alberta featuring Edmonton @ Calgary on Sunday afternoon averaged an impressive 1.55 million viewers making it the most-watched conference semifinal game ever recorded*.

Additionally, the BC @ Hamilton overtime thriller on TSN attracted 1.36 million viewers. The audience peaked at 2.1 million viewers during the final half-hour as the Ti-Cats forced overtime only to see the Lions win the game with a dramatic touchdown in extra time.

The two games combined reached an impressive 6.7 million Canadians throughout the six hours of game coverage on TSN.

CFL playoff action continues on TSN this weekend with the East Conference Final on Sunday, Nov. 22 featuring BC @ Montreal at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the West Conference Final featuring Calgary @ Saskatchewan at 4 p.m. ET. The CFL on TSN panel will be live on location from Mosaic Stadium in Regina for both games.

Both games are available in High Definition and on-demand on TSN.ca

ok a better update of the weekend sports

A CFL playoff audience record
TSN pulled in big audiences, one a record, for its two CFL playoff telecasts on the weekend.
The BBM Canadian overnight measurements (the final number could change slightly) showed the Edmonton Eskimos-Calgary Stampeders West conference semi-final drawing 1.55 million viewers. That’s a record audience for a conference semi-final and up 44 per cent from last year’s 862,000 for B.C. Lions-Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The East semi-final, B.C.-Hamilton Tiger-Cats, which went into overtime, drew 1.36 million. That’s a whopping 55 per cent increase over last year’s 610,000 for Esks-Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Audience figures have increased dramatically since September, when the new Portable People Meter system of measurement was instituted. It draws from a larger sample base and is more accurate. Live sports shows and children’s programming, in which groups watch, have shown the largest increases.
Hockey: The CBC’s audience of 1.808 million for the 7 p.m. ET Hockey Night in Canada game represented a drop of about 150,000 viewers, mainly because the network aired just one broadcast, Calgary Flames-Toronto Maple Leafs, compared to three on the previous weekend – one national and two regional broadcasts. Prime time curling on TSN also would have set into the hockey audience.
The CBC Saturday afternoon game, New York Rangers-Ottawa Senators, was watched by 579,000. The second game of the evening doubleheader, Vancouver Canucks-Colorado Avalanche, drew 876,000.
The 6:30 p.m. ET pre-game, Scotiabank Hockey Tonight, continues to do very well. It pulled in 632,000.
NFL: CTV 1 p.m. ET, Sunday, regional: 593,000; Rogers Sportsnet regional 4 p.m., 208,000; City-TV, 4 p.m. 485,000; TSN, Sunday night, New England-Indianapolis, 621,000; pre-game, 467,000.
Curling: TSN, 1 p.m., Saturday, Olympic trial preliminaries, 455,000; 8 p.m., 378,000.
NBA: TSN2, Sunday, 8 p.m., Toronto Raptors-Phoenix Suns, 191,000.
Figure skating: Skate America (pairs free), CBC, Saturday, 5 p.m. ET, 399,000; Sunday, 2 p.m., men’s free, women’s free, 293,000.

this is still measuring a different way than last year, correct? everything is 50% higher because they decided to count viewers differently.

thats right worth, its actually mentioned at the bottom of the cfl part, this year is the new more accurate system, so the numbers are higher then last year for most sports. its more useful to compare to other sports this year and other CFL results this year. tough to measure against last years playoffs, but no surprise the numbers would be higher for both regardless. battle of alberta and a close overtime game with a comeback of the year team

update for weekend of nov 20-22

CFL tops 2 million, Leafs keep rolling, the other blades battle scores big

A look at the weekend sports ratings produces a couple of revelations and at least one surprise.
First, the CFL is turning into a ratings juggernaut. Sunday's West final topped the 2 million mark and the East still hit 1.35 million despite being all but over at the half. If anybody left the game to watch the NFL, the ratings sure didn't show it.
Maybe CFL fans enjoy a good slaughter once in a while.
Those CFL ratings are the kinds normally the exclusive property of Hockey Night In Canada, which brings us to our second revelation.
In spite of what you may be hearing, the deranged army of Maple Leafs supporters is not abandoning the leaky ship. HNIC drew 2.1 million for Saturday night's regional tripleheader.
Then there's figure skating, long given up for dead as a TV ratings hit. Sunday night's dance finale on CBC averaged 955,000 viewers. Now, it's possible many of them tuned in to watch Battle of the Blades by mistake and wondered just what NHL team Canada's Scott Moir used to play for. Or maybe figure skating is making a comeback.
Here are the most-watched weekend sports events in English Canada, as calculated by BBM overnight ratings:
1. NHL, 5pm MT: Capitals-Leafs/Wings-Habs/Sabres-Senators, Saturday, CBC: 2,101,000
2. CFL, 2:30pm MT: Stampeders at Roughriders, Sunday, TSN: 2,002,000
3. CFL, 11am MT: Lions at Alouettes, Sunday, TSN: 1,350,000** (estimates of 500k tuned in from Quebec=1.85mil)

4. Figure skating, Skate Canada dance free, Sunday, CBC: 955,000
5. NHL, 8pm MT: Blackhawks at Oilers, Saturday, CBC: 725,000
6. NHL, 5pm MT: Canadiens at Capitals, Friday, TSN: 658,000
7. NHL, 4:30pm MT: Hockey Night In Canada pre-game, Saturday, CBC: 657,000
8. NFL, 11am MT: Early games, Sunday, CTV: 533,000
9. NFL, Pre-game show, Sunday, TSN: 510,000*
10. NFL, 6pm MT: Eagles at Bears, Sunday, TSN: 502,000*
11. Figure skating, Skate Canada men's free, Saturday, CBC: 477,000
12. Figure skating, Skate Canada dance, pairs, Saturday, CBC: 373,000
13. Basketball, Magic at Raptors, Sunday, CBC: 287,000
14. 2pm MT: NFL, Late games, Sunday, Citytv: 287,000
15. Figure skating, Skate Canada women's free, Sunday, CBC: 286,000
16. Bobsleigh, World Cup, Saturday, CBC: 270,000
17. 11am MT: CIS, Laval vs. Queens, Saturday, TSN: 264,000**
* NBC viewers not calculated
** RDS viewers not calculated

wow, im suprised by the figure skating numbers, really? also surprised the Queens Laval game didn't get better ratings, but its a start i guess.

I don't really have anything to say here, but I do appreciate the updates. Always interesting to see what's drawing viewers.

yep, good numbers
i heard at one point there were almost 15 million tuned in to the Grey Cup
good numbers for the Vanier, TSN should do more CIS football next year based on these numbers.
also flames-avs should be flames-jackets
