It's clearly fake.

Far more newspaper ink, TV time and military force was spent on the 3,000 than is spent on the 15,000. And that 15,000 happens each and every day.
The answer, then, is not to make light of the 3000 but to do something about the 15000.

On that same note, why do people send me invites to Facebook groups like "People against Animal Cruelty"? Like that's going to accomplish anything.

You want to be against animal cruelty, send some money to the SPCA or some other such group, or volunteer, but being "against" something involves more than clicking on "Accept" in your f'in browser.

Well, given that I now have 3 foster children through Plan Canada, I *AM* doing more than some others. I think assuming I JUST talk about it on the internet was presumptuous.

Jammies: I dunno. Group organizing and sharing ideas takes many forms. I think sharing thoughts and ideas on the internet DOES accomplish something. I ran a BBS centered on politics and social issues when I was in second year of university... so 1992... The hardest step was getting people from posting to praxis. But it did happen. People joined in, got to know some of the issues and then started getting involved in community groups. The local Amnesty group got 5 new members from people who read my BBS and wanted to get involved and do something....

Wow that's very cool. I don't know anybody who is a foster parent but would be intersted to know more about it from somebody. If you ever have some time on your hands, it would be cool if you started a thread about it that gave the ins and outs and an opportunity for us to ask some questions about it. Good on you dude.

There have been other threads on the topic:

And "Plan Canada" changed their name from "Canada Foster Parents Plan" because now less than half the money collected goes to the child and their family. That's the way it used to work, but now the projects are more community based (build health clinics, digging wells, training the adults irrigation methods, etc)). It went from mostly handing money over so that one family could afford to eat to building communities. They still put a childs face on the community, and the child is certainly benefiting from the money, but most of it doesn't go directly to them. Some does for clothes, food and school supplies. But like I said, most goes to improving the community as a whole.

This is ridiculous beyond measure. They are saying "protect the planet" and using a terrorist hijacking of commercial airlines and one of the most massive earthquakes of recent history to drive that point home? WTF?

The 2004 tsunami was caused by an earthquake measuring 9.3 on the Richter scale and lasting almost 10 minutes, the second strongest earthquake ever recorded. So powerful it made the Earth wobble on its axis and made days slightly shorter. How are we supposed to predict/prevent THAT? And what harms does it do to the planet? The planet is the one doing it!

This is it, people. If we can try to stop the planetary Milankovitch cycles (and the resultant planetary warming cycle we've been in since the Pleistocene), surely we can work together to ban movement in the Lithosphere.

I'd also like to see an answer to this question.

I used to play Legos while Stampede Wrestling then WWF was on in the background. Stupid wildlife fund made the Wrestling Federation change their name and now my present is disconnected from my past.
