And no I'm not a cop for whoever asked.
So what is the taser for? Non compliance?

Yeah.......really. Tasing people who do not pose a dangerous threat to a police officer is citizen abuse, flat out. And if you look into the "this is bull" thread, you will see many examples of police abusing innocent people with their tasers because they are "non-lethal" (and even that is arguable) and don't leave a mark, so they can get away with it. Heck they dont even have a problem tasing kids and 72 year old grandmas. You don't physically punish someone for disagreeing with you or being non-compliant. They should go back to the old way which was night-stick, or the pistol as last resort. I dont see what was wrong with that.

Like I said, I'm not a cop. But here's an image of the RCMP use of force model. The taser, I think, is considered an intermediate weapon. And it's considered less lethal, not non-lethal.

And oilers_fan:

Are you in fact a cop or something? In training/school? Because your blind love and admiration for the police is kind of creepy, actually.
Get the lawyers but you can be a public nuisance and dealt with by the law accordingly. I'm not siding with the use of tasers I'm just saying the police had a right to show up and the guy being plastered seemed dumb with the family around. If it's forest lawn I get it but anywhere else it's out of sorts.

I'd like to taser you for your dumb post. Lucky for me, I'm not a police officer and don't have a taser handy.
Yes, thats exactly what I said.

I'd like to taser you for this stupid post

(for those who are a little smarter then Delger, what I was saying is we probably arn't getting the whole story here. I've seen cops abuse their power before, but because they were tasered during training, the intention is that they know what it feels like and will think twice about using it and probably only use it when they only need to)

It isn't surprising that a couple of unruly, drunks disobeying the cops instructions while disrupting the public would get tasered.

So you think a night stick (I'll leave the gun out of it for obvious reasons) to the head 7 or 8 times is less abuse than a taser?

No, but it will get alot more press. A night stick would leave evidence behind, and get the officers in trouble. The tazer is an easy way out for these guys, so they can usually get away with stuff like this. Although they did get caught here, I bet alot more goes on than what we hear, even on CP.

Yeah, you can't find media anywhere these days who will do a piece on a taxer being used. Or inquiries, or internal reviews or anything. It's all being swept under the rug. I bet for every time a taser is used in a questionable fashion, they're used hundreds of other times, and we don't ever hear about it. Stupid conspiracies.
