Only I used to listen to critics because I thought they knew what they were talking about. Then found that most of the movies they like I couldn't stand. Same goes for the Oscars. Just about any movie that won an Oscar I won't waste my time with. Since critics didn't like this one I will now have to go see it. I give critics a 1/10 stars.

This is the reason I hate disaster movies. Pathetic dialogue just kills me. The trailer looks good but I could never sit through that nonsense.

NASA talks about 2012, and whether the world will end:

http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html

Much like Y2K, 2012 has been analyzed and the science of the end of the Earth thoroughly studied. Contrary to some of the common beliefs out there, the science behind the end of the world quickly unravels when pinned down to the 2012 timeline. Below, NASA Scientists answer several questions that we're frequently asked regarding 2012.

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012?
A: Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then -- just as your calendar begins again on January 1 -- another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar.

With Tower gone, I think someone should say it for him.

Well of course the guys at NASA are going to say nothing bad is going to happen. That's the first thing they would do if something horrible was going to happen. We should all start panicking now.

Except for me, I've declared myself a free-man-from-physics, so the end of the world can't affect me, becasue the laws of physics don't apply to me.

I really believe you need to re-think your stance of Oscars winners. Yes, there have been some trashy movies to win Oscars, but I think the Academy gets it right more often then they do not. Of the last 20 Best Picture winners, can you name me more than 5 that you would deem "bad" movies?? Maybe you didn't think they were the best of the year and that's fine, but that in no way means they were bad movies.

Here's the last 20 Best Picture Winners

Dances with Wolves
Silence of the Lambs
Unforgiven
Schindler's List
Forrest Gump
Braveheart
English Patient
Titanic
Shakesspeare in Love
American Beauty
Gladiator
Beautiful Mind
Chicago
Return of the King
Million Dollar Baby
Crash
The Departed
No Country for Old Men
Slumdog millionaire

Ok you win. I stand corrected, but only on the Oscar thing. I'll have to give it another chance. But not the critics......never the critics.

I went on a trip to the ruins of Tikal in Guatemala about 3 years ago, and we had this little mayan tour guide who was about 70 years old. He was a very strong believer in the mayan mythology and the associated timeline. 2012 was mentioned several times by him as an extremely significant date, although he never went so far as to say it would be the "End of the world." What he did say was that it was a year that would bring great change to the world, an "apocalypse" of sorts. I was confused by his use of the word apocalyse, as I have always associated it with the end of time or the end of days. He explained to me that apocalypse in the sense that he was using the word was only meant as a way to describe significant change in the world, not the ending of the world. He was extremely interesting, and we got into all kinds of discussions about crystal skulls and energy "ley" lines and so on. Apparently according to the mayans, Tikal was situated on the crossing point of several major energy lines on the planet. Cool stuff. AND Tikal is also the ruins you see in the Star Wars as the x-fighters go flying off to kill the deathstar. Theres a little bit of info you might not have known!

Elaine Benes would disagree with this best picture.

Yea it's enormous. Climbing up the pyramids is almost like doing a vertical climb with the steps being like 2.5-3 feet each. I can't even imagine how little mayan people did that all the time, since I'm 6' and had a tough time doing it.

I'm amazed they let you climb them..most don't anymore or have built alternate stairs. But yeah, scary at the top of them with the vertical drop. I wanted a fricken parachute to get down!

We used the artificial stairs to climb two of the main ones in the courtyard area, but one of the lesser ones my sister and I just ran up the side of it. The guide was kinda pissed and said we were lucky none of the stones crumbled as we ran up the side. I didn't even think about it but those things are super old and I totally could have caused some damage very easily.
