Well it is a little more complicated than that. We have 18 positions and four people left. When the four left two positions were posted. The remaining two empty positions were re-assigned to supervisory level positions that report to the manager. Effectively splitting the department into two seperate area's (8 people each) that were headed by two supervisors that report to the department manager. In the wake our manager was promoted to a higher ME level. And with any promotion in ME it is accompanied by benefits.

Not really. 13 people with full time jobs got let go. Another 15 were re-assigned back to their original positions. So those 15 re-assignments would knock out whoever took their job in the mean time. In the end, unless their position remained empty, someone gets laid off. So out of the 15 if you estimate that half were filled "limited term" then that's another 8 layoffs, or 20ish total.
Yeah, it's a bit confusing.
