The platform the phones will run on is, yes.

If the iPhone didn't exist, I would be waiting for an Android phone. The Pre is interesting but it's the same hardware as the iPhone plus a keyboard and doesn't have the 3rd party development sphere that Google or Apple have.

Posting from my 2nd Tour. I had to get it exchanged (after only 3 days) because battery was dead after 4 phone calls. This one seems a lot better. Been unplugged for over 4 hours and I'm still at 90% power. I guess there's a batch that had bad batteries.

Oh well... Still love it!

Yeah, bad batteries aren't unheard of.

I went through 2 sets of batteries until I realized that my charger was creating a problem with my current phone.

Telus replaced it all at no cost.

Interesting. I would have thought that replacing the battery would have done the trick.

Well on top of that, on the way to the store, the track-ball stopped working. It was only working to go up and down, and not side to side.

So they replaced the entire thing, copied over all my info and wiped my old phone.

Battery lasted me all weekend, so this one looks like it's a keeper.

I have been having some trackball issues as well. Nothing a battery pull doesn't fix.

For those interested, apparently Bell has now started to train employees with the Pre in Calgary. They will start training them in Vancouver tomorrow, and Toronto on Thursday. The speculation is that it will be released in mid-August.

The SDK was also recently released, so the Pre will soon start to get more and more applications.

Ok guys...LOVE my new BlackBerry Tour. I've installed a few apps (Facebook, The Score, TuneWiki, Google Maps) and they're all awesome!

I was trying to search around and rather than starting a new thread I'll just ask here:

Does anyone know of an app for the BlackBerry so I can access Twitter? There seems to be a few to pick from...but I just want to access Twitter. There doesn't seem to be a "Twitter only" app for the BlackBerry...not that I can see.

Any help? BTW...I'm not on Twitter...yet...just thinking of it.

Cheers!

I know there is an app called TwitterBerry. I have heard and read about it but I have not been able to find it on the BlackBerry App World. There was a thread kicking around in this forum about Twitter. In the opening post fred123 talks about having TwitterBerry.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a BB Tour in the next couple of weeks and I'm wondering what everyone thinks about it. Also, I've never owned a Blackberry before and would like to get some app recommendations (and a little info on what each app does).

Well I've had my Tour now since release (July 14th). I love it. Now keep in mind I've gone from a flip phone (LG Shine) to this. Quite a drastic change. I didn't think I'd get used to it, but it only took a few days.

I did have to exchange it after only 3 days, as the battery wasn't lasting that long. I was making 3 phone calls, checking Facebook for 2 minutes...and was at 45% power already. And it had only been off the charger for 4 hours! Anyway, I had it exchanged and haven't had any problem since. I guess I had the "bad apple" of the bunch.

As for apps...there are sooooo many! I use:
- Facebook
- Viigo (news, weather, sports, business info, etc, etc)
- ScoreMobile (The Score)
- Vision (YouTube viewer)
- Texts From Last Night (FREAKIN' HELARIOUS!)
- TuneWiki (shows the lyrics of your MP3s as they play)
- Poynt with Google Maps (get directions and address, etc, etc)

That's about it for now. I was trying TwitterBerry...but didn't see the use in Twitter as non of my friends are on it.

I tend to use the PIN (instant messanger) option a lot to have conversations with my buddies at work. It's an awesome feature of the BlackBerry.

The tour seems quick when it comes to downloading e-mails and setup is really easy. I have 3 different e-mail addresses coming to it (2 Shaw and 1 Hotmail) plus my BlackBerry address. The BlackBerry e-mail address is an option and is not nessessary.

The trackball reacts quickly and feels very smooth in your hands. The screen is beautiful and watching movies and videos on it is great!

Anyway...that's my little review. I hope it helps. I would suggest going to the store and trying one out and see if you like it.

Cheers!

I also picked up the Tour on its release date. It is my fourth smartphone, I had a Palm Treo 650, Treo 700, BlackBerry Curve 8830, and now the Tour.

The biggest changes from the Curve to the Tour are the camera, browser, keyboard, and screen. The screen is the clearest I have ever seen on any device. The browser displays webpages like it would on your computer. The keyboard is just different and the Camera is 3.2 MP instead of 1.2 or whatever is was on the Curve. The software is different which means there are improvements over the Curve and some extra features that I didn't have on the curve.

As for Apps, I havn't really downloaded anything yet. I have Facebook 1.6 which comes with the device and QuickPull which I downloaded. I'm not a fan of paying for Apps so I don't really use to many.

All in all I really like the device. I'm scared to death of touch screens so for now this is the perfect device for me.

Edit: One app that I did pay for is Telus Navigator. It has its up and downs. They sure could improve it.
