So her daughter gets knocked up, but her mother stands by her the entire time and helps take care of her and the child. Who cares if she believes in abstinence? Besides condoms aren't the solution to teen pregnancy, it's convincing kids that sleeping around when you're 17 isn't a good idea.
Missing my point, the daugther goes on a tour talking abstinence only to teens, thats irony.
I never said condoms are a solution, just that teaching only abstinence is not a solution, and teaching safe sex, abstinence combined with honest and up front teaching works best.
Did you listen to that speech? Did you ever see them there interviews she did on the television? If she's not dumb then she's a hell of an actress.

We would never have even heard of her if the media "hated her from the start". Everyone loves her kind of story. The media would prefer to have her to talk about than boring old Joe Biden.
The negative press she eventually brought was due to her own actions and ineptitude.

Palin got way more sneering disdan than she deserved. Was she dumb? We will never know. It's the media who decide how to portray someone and they hated her from the start. I'd also like to remind everyone that Obama made his share of campaign gaffes, including overestimating the number of states in the US.
For a few weeks following the announcement that McCain had picked her, including her speech at the Republican Convention, Palin was a media darling. They only turned against her when it became obvious she was completely incapable of running the country.
Did you even see the infamous Katie Couric interview? She wasn't hostile towards Palin at all, but Sarah couldn't even give a proper answer to such softball questions as, "What magazines and newspapers do you read?"

Please... the knives were out as soon as she was nominated. Even Christopher Hitchens, someone who grew to somewhat loathe her during the campaign trail, spoke out in her defence.
So everyone admits that they are completely taken in by Obama's oratorial skill, even though he had little or nothing of substance to say during the whole campaign? I didn't even like Palin and I do think she was way out of her league, but the sneering derision and snobbery is way too much for me to take.
Making Sarah Palin jokes is the new thing that stupid people can do to make themselves feel better. No one can come out and explain really why they don't like her, only that she gave some bad interviews and believes that God created the world in 6 days. Is that it?

whether or not she should run for president, I think she will.
I think she'll be super popular as a speaker on the Republican fundraising circuit for the next couple of years and then we will see her guaged as a presidential candidate potential.
You'll also see the republican spin doctors slowly start building a case for her being a smarty pants rather than the hick she currently comes off as.
I hope she sticks around though, if only to piss off the political aficionado snobs who can't come up with a reason for anyone to support her other than "they are dumb", then they go back to missing the real world.

That Cafferty stuff is just plain hilarious. What a pompous old wind-bag trying to summon up whatever fake piety he can. Did he cover the Reagan administration? How about the Clinton one? You'd have thought he could have put Palin into context given those two ######s.
Please... the knives were out as soon as she was nominated. Even Christopher Hitchens, someone who grew to somewhat loathe her during the campaign trail, spoke out in her defence.
Well if Christopher Hitchens said it...
The knives were out when it became obvious that she was an incompetent fool.

So does that mean defending her is the new thing that smart people can do to make themselves feel better?
I can think of a few reasons why I should like her (and they ain't got nothin' to do with what she looks like) but there are a lot more reasons to not like her. There is more to it than her embarrassing interviews and kooky religious beliefs.
There is a reason she's bailing out now and she didn't explain what it is in that crazy "speech". I don't know what it is, but I'm guessing that it can go in the "reasons to not like her" pile.
Just to be fair, while those interviews make me wince, if you know anything about politics, all it means is that Palin was not properly briefed by her handlers.

The negative press is one thing but I think she's was being sued too right? I don't know all the details but didn't she mention she's spent $500000 on lawyers fees fighting off lawsuits?
I think she's done. She's tired of the media watching her family and picking on everything like the Letterman thing for example. IF she's smart she'll just work behind the scenes in the republican party, write a book that makes millions and be on tv from time to time. She's a shoe in for Fox News.

From all accounts and purposes, she is a fairly average intellect. That said, the United States has a pretty long history of being led by men with fairly average intellects: Reagan, Clinton, Carter, GW2...
I'm not defending her to make myself feel better. In fact, I don't like her and I would agree that it was a very bad choice by the McCain campaign. That said, the 09 Republican campaign was FRAUGHT with mistakes and miscues. The entire thing, from top to bottom, was very poorly run and Sarah Palin is one of those mistakes. Not only her selection, but her poorly scripted public appearances and her lack of briefings. That is probably mostly her fault, I believe that she refused help from the RNC, preferring to select her own staff.
If we can talk about more reasons not to like her that don't include her interviews and religious beliefs, than I think that is perfectly fair game. I am just defending her in this context because I can't stand this absolutely disgusting fake piety and derision over a woman who was only available through the lens of the American media.
Just to be fair, while those interviews make me wince, if you know anything about politics, all it means is that Palin was not properly briefed by her handlers.
If you are running for Vice President of the United States you should not NEED TO BE BRIEFED. She's not a puppet for handlers to feed her lines. She should know what she is talking about. Do you want a leader that knows nothing except how to run PTA meetings? Who has no real knowledge or even basic comprehension of critical world or events and relevant histories before she makes a decision?
She is an airhead, nothing that comes out of her mouth ever makes any sense. She has no real knowledge, only talking points that are prepared for her and when she tries to make sense of them or she has to actually explain them in some way, she gets absolutely lost and confused and rambles around trying to get back to her prepared talking points because she has absolutely no idea where she is and has no opinion on things that she has no understanding of aside from what her 'you betcha' gut tells her.
I am not running for Vice President of the United States and I know what the Bush Doctrine is. This woman clearly had no idea what the term doctrine in presidential terms means (Monroe Doctrine, Truman Doctrine, Kennedy Doctrine, etc). She had utterly no idea what the word even meant. I am not running for Vice President of the United States and I could easily give you a concise and clear answer as to what I think of the bailout instead of rambling about some healthcare umbrella nonsense with job creation and Iraq.
It's not even down to inexperience. This woman is 45 years old and up to this point, it's clear she had no previous base knowledge of global politics, economics, etc. or had even thought about them or even read a newspaper or magazine or journal often enough to really know anything. At that point, it's a little too late to start gaining experience to be the leader of the free world.

Excuses excuses...... It was her blatant inexperience and lack of knowladge that did her in. The party kept her from the press and media for over a month while they tried to educate her. Anyone with half a brain would have known they didn't have the experience or knowladge for the job. In fact the vast majority in her similar position would have turned down the VP position.
Palin failed to recognise her limitations and that in part lead to her downfall. The media didn't make her look bad, she did.

SHE COULDN'T SAY WHICH MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERS SHE READS!
If you can't answer that question without being briefed by your handlers, you have no hope at all of succeeding in politics.

Why aren't her religious beliefs and interviews fair game?
If I was talking about how great Sonny Liston was could I say "everything but his drug problem and criminal history is fair game"?
She is way out of her league, a hypocrite, a liar and it looks to me like she's a crook. None of that has to do with her interviews or religious beliefs.
Well, maybe her religious beliefs.

I don't think anyone would turn down a chance to be VP. It was McCain who was the stupid one that picked her.
Being a VP candidate was never that hard but with today's media, everythng gets scrutinized and she kept digging her own grave. The republicans were behind, she was their savoir and it all blew up.
