Safeway is so ludicrously expensive. At least Sobey's can be reasonable with the prices.

Seriously? I have always found, from the most expensive to the least: Sobeys, co-op, Safeway, Superstore. And truthfully you save a load by going to Superstore. However it's one stressful shopping experience.
Sidenote, the GF is at that safeway right now, been standing in line for 30min because the place is so busy. I would have bailed a long time ago.

Was that your Lamborghini parked at the Edo?
As for the Safeway, what a zoo. Almost got into a fistfight due to the confusion about where the lineups started.

From the Simon Pie guy? Really, I'm pretty sure you just have to nuke them, they're pre-cooked. If you want to be totally food safe, pop them in the oven and heat them up until the internal temperature reaches 160oF.

Last time I went to Safeway Rice Krispie cereal was $6.50. At Wal-mart it was about $3.50.
Yeah, Safeway's a total ripoff.

This took me all of 10 seconds:
1) Google Simple Simon Pies.
2) Click on Q&A link.

Why would Superstore be a stressful shopping experience?

As I understand it, some people really get stressed out by the whole self-bagging thing. First, you have to estimate how many bags you need, which is like a bad trip back to all of those math classes you failed. Then, you are rushed to get everything into the bags because the clerk is already pushing the next person's stuff into yours. When they get home, a handle rips on their bag full of cans and their loaf of bread is squished like a pancake. Who needs that kind of stress, when you can just drop an extra $25 on your groceries and have someone else do all that hard labour of about 2 minutes.

I've never seen as many people in a grocery store as in that Safeway last night. There were some good deals to be had, though.
My wife got upset when I said, "It's just like Sneak-a-Peek for Stampede".

Hmm, it never really did occur to me that this can be a form of stress. It always just seemed common sense to me that you would put the squishable items on top and the non squishable items on the bottom. I guess I give mankind a little too much credit when it lol.

There are other issues that I have with Superstore.
First, is the layout. I suppose part of the problem is that I don't go enought but the way the place is laid out is terrible IMO.
Second, there seems to always be a screaming baby. Honestly, I don't know what they put in the air but it seems ever time I go, there is a child screaming at the top of his/her lungs.
Third, broken carts. I feel like I have a better chance winning Lotto 649 than I do with picking a cart without a stuck wheel.
Fourth, now this may get me in trouble but I find their are a number more asians that shop at Superstore. This probably has to do with the much more diverse food selection, however it seems from my experience, that they have much less patience and will mow you down with their cart if you are not careful. I suppose I am stereotyping...
Fifth, the produce is generally not as good quality as Safeway, COOP, etc.
Sixth, this is in regards to the Signall Hill location. The parking lot is atrocious. Barely enough room to fit two cars and it is always packed.
It is a combination of everything for me, I can't stand the place and for the most part will stick to Safeway. Sometimes I will go to Walmart and get some dry food (like tuna) and bread/bagels as the price is much better. Even that though, I leave in a bad mood most of the time.

Those "asians" are Chinese. Don't lump the rest of us polite asians with those... God, I'd wish they'd learn manners.

To paraphrase the late Reggie White, "The Asian is very gifted. He can turn a shopping cart into a lethal weapon."

I actually like SS's layout better. The other chains tend to put housewares, cosmetics, hard goods, etc., in the centre aisles and have the produce, bakery, and dairy spread around the outsides of the store. At SS, they have all the hard goods on one side of the store, and the dairy, bakery, and produce are all together.

Good point. I'm pretty sure Safeway is only full of childless couples. If you've ever tried to buy diapers at Safeway, you'd be the one doing the screaming and crying. It's like twice the price. Robbery.

You got me there. I have to admit those Safeway carts tend to be pretty smooth rides. Probably because they never get used. Most people shopping there are singles who only really need to use a carry basket.

Meh, when in Rome do as the Romans do. I'm like twice the height of those little Chinese ladies. They'll get out of your way so long as you don't blink. It's fun once you get into it.

I think this has to do with the picked over nature of the produce. You need to get their early in the day to get the good stuff. I like the thrill of competition, personally.

Really, if you're willing to walk just a little bit, there's always tons of parking by the Zellers.

The prices at Superstore are better, but you are paying with your soul.
The overcrowding, the lack of maners, peole who will just suddenly stop in the middle of the isle and block it for everyone behind them, etc.
When I go to Safeway, I actually feel relaxed as opposed to stressed at Superstore. That's worth a lot to me
...sorry for the off topic comment

I went to the Safeway this morning - no line ups at all, lots of free samples, and lots of specials (including a $15 iTunes card if you spend enough on groceries). There's also one of the new $1.79 DVD rental vending machines. It's not really any different than the Safeway at WestHills though (I would rather have had a decent Sobey's in the neighbourhood for variety, since the only one nearby is a tiny former IGA).
