many times. The closest to a halfway is Idaho Falls. I've stayed there but I've also gone all the way to Provo, Utah to make day 2 a shorter drive (tough to go straight through when your kids are with you).

You shouldn't be taking kids to Vegas.

There's been lots of kids there both times I've been. There's a family friendly experience to be had there, but I have to admit it wouldn't be my first choice for a family holiday.

There's been lots of kids there every time I was there too but it still doesn't mean it's a good idea. But most of the people who bring kids seem to be of the white trash variety. Why TF would you be pushing a stroller on the Strip at 11:30 at night?

I'm not one of the idiots wheeling them around at midnight on Fremont Street. My parents live there, the kids stay with them while we go out.

That's a little different situation.
Kids shouldn't be on the Strip but if they're spending time with their grandparents, that's fine.

I'd get up mad early to leave Calgary, like 5am, drive clear to Salt Lake, then make the next bit to Vegas early enough to do some damage.
If not, Stay in Helena Montana or Idaho then make it to Vegas, but you'll get there later.

There is lots for kids to do in Las Vegas now (compared to when I went in the 1970s and the Circus Circus was the only attraction for kids). I took my boys (7 and 5) on Spring Break and they can't wait to go back.

This last time I went, I went to the Shelby museum....and checked out all these different Mustangs.....it was neat. Its not an all day thing and is off the strip, so if you're into cars, its cool.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/shelby-museum-las-vegas for the address. Its right by the racetrack..you can sign up to race! That part is pricey and we didnt do it but it looked pretty cool..right on a REAL racetrack.

A couple years ago, myself and 2 other buddies drove down to Vegas. Left McKenzie Towne at 2pm Thursday, drove for 12hrs and got to some place between Provo/St.George, Utah. Slept for 4hrs and arrived in Vegas at 9:30am. It can be done in just under 20hrs if you have a couple other drivers. Shouldn't be more than 24hrs taking your sweet time.

I'm in Vegas 3-5 times a year on business.
Outside of a lot of the typical things already mentioned, two doosies are:
- Shoot guns at one of the many gun ranges
- Do a dune buggy tour out in the desert. A few places set them up and it's a blast to go ripping around on them
Palms / Rio / Planet Hollywood good for buffet. Good rule of thumb is to shell out a bit more. The 7.99 - 12.99 buffets are that cheap for a reason. The seafood at the Palms and Rio were great, and well worth the admission price.

Hijacking an old thread instead of creating a new one.
We'll be in Vegas over Christmas and I was wondering if anybody knew if there would be any shopping deals in and around there? I realize that Boxing Day does not exist in the states, but is there some sort of equivalent to look forward to?

Thanks for the help, I should have been more clear as I was hoping for deals at the 'regular' stores at the Fashion show mall, Forum shops or hopefully at Crystals.
Just something to get excited about is all.
