Also, it isn't like USC has a history of producing crap pro players that might raise red flags as well. Their guys have been better than any other univeristy when it comes to transitioning to the pros

Im a huge USC fan...but i would have to say that Miami produces quite a few more guys than anyone else....at least it seems that way.

Todd McShay on ESPN is reporting that the Seahawks have told him (or someone within their org.) that they are going to draft Mark Sanchez at 4. Interesting.

I think it would be close with top schools. At the end of the day those top recruits should end up being drafted and have good careers, these top schools get all the top of of the line talent mostly.

I think that lately USC has done a better job and for me they have done better and producing not only the elite level guys that Miami seems to but also the second tier guys like Steve Smith, Terrell Thomas etc.
I guess I should have said do as good a job as any other university.

From google:
The University of Miami has the most players in the NFL today, with 47. Florida State comes in second place with 45 players in the NFL. Miami jumped over FSU after the 2006 NFL draft. It was previously stated that Nebraska had the most players in the NFL, however, according to ESPN's count they have about 33. That is considerably less that Miami or FSU, which are generally the schools considered to produce the best NFL talent in the country.
Not, Michigan has 42 currently(CBS Sportsline)

And he'll likely fall to at least #17 in our mock draft. I made the Seahawks mock pick at #4 and considered Sanchez, but I just don't see how Seattle can afford to pay him #4 pick money (~6yrs/$60 million, $27-30 million guaranteed) and then have him back up Hasselbeck for a season or two. Seattle is tight on cap space and have many other needs... can they really afford to spend $10 million a season on somenoe who won't contribute for a couple of years?
At #17, he'd get a Joe Flacco type deal -- ~5yrs/$30 million, $9 million guaranteed.... much more manageable for someone who might sit for a season or two. That being said, I don't expect him to last to #17 in the real draft. I think he'll go top 10, either to a current pick holder or someone who trades up.

I completly agree... if the Seahawks want to draft sanchez... they will move down.
Teams always do this though so they get trade offers for people to move up. If you look at the Flacco pick last year that saw Baltimore move up to take him its because there were teams saying "Hey we are going to draft Flacco unless you want to work out a trade so you can take him"
Its very common for a GM to tell the media what position he is interested in. Look at the rams GM telling the media that he wants to draft a tackle... its pretty obvious that the Rams will draft a tackle but you have to think... Why would he say it to the media then? Its good management IMO.

Thanks for the pace guys. Since Super-Rye picked we've been moving at a very nice rate!

Very interesting pick... most mock drafts dont even have him going in the 1st round. Care to explain?

I originally wanted Oher but as you can see he got taken. I think Beatty is gonna be a pretty solid player and i feel that this is a position of need for the Chargers.
Definately not a pick for the best talent remaining simply choosing a player to fill a team need
Hes a project type player but has TONS of potential so we shall see... but i do agree it is pretty high as most experts have him late first early second

The Bills have just traded LT Jason Peters to the Eagles for the #28 pick and a 4th rounder. I suspect the Bills will now try to take a tackle at either #11 or #28 to replace Peters, depending on who is available.... I also suspect the Eagles will take a RB, probably Moreno, at #21.

I agree.. I think Andre Smith has a chance of dropping to #11... but do the Bills take that risk?

This draft is moving along now. Good job guys.
10 more picks before me. I still have my top 8 choices (what I thought would be left at #27) so hopefully my #1 and 2 are still there.

Sorry for the delay fellas had a very eventful day, anyway.
With the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NFL entry draft The New York Jets are proud to select from Ohio State University.
RB Chris "Beanie" Wells.
By far the most talented RB in this draft. His combination of size, power and speed have drawn comparisons to Adrian Peterson and Bo Jackson. His only question is durability and that's the ONLY reason that he may fall to 17. Putting him behind the Jets offensive line would turn a good running attack into a great one, maybe the best in the NFL. He will play perfectly into what Rex Ryan wants on offense, a smashmouth running game to take pressure off of the young QB, whoever that may be. The fact that TJ is whining over a new contract which he's not going to get increases the appeal of a RB. If he's on the board, I don't see how the Jets can pass on him.

Ah screw it. I know he won't be there at 12, let alone 18, but there is no way I can pass on Mark Sanchez, QB, USC. Seen enough and know enough about the kid to know he's the best QB to come out of USC since Carson Palmer and has the potential to be as good, albeit with a different style. The guy's a winner. I'm not a fan of moving up to get him given the Broncos situation at the position and the level of talent available next year at QB. But if he's there at 18 we have to take him.
This really screws my draft plans up!!
