I think that is the whole point summed up. Billy Bob's little band wouldn't have much notoriety if not for his acting background. To get his nose out of joint at a pretty minor mention of it despite what he wished, is unrealistic.....almost as unrealistic as comparing himself to Tom Petty and mentioning that he is a musical historian as if that counts for something.

I liked the guy....but he lost me as a fan when he tried to make the small market radio host look smaller. Never mind the jabs at Canada.

I saw Willie Nelson last month sans Billy Bob's band. The crowd was quite a mix. But no one was throwing anything that is for sure. Pretty tame crowd actually (might have been the massive bats everyone was smoking).

Eff off Billy.

I listened to four songs on their myspace page. It wasn't that great. It was actually bad.

Like Billy Bob, I'm a music historian (I listened to music when I was a kid) and I like country music. The "British invasion played by hillbillies" sounded like a good recipe to me. I thought I'd like it. I did not. It sounded like music you'd hear when you are on hold.

What is a music historian? Someone who knows about old music, or something more than that?

All I can say is don't mess with Moxy Fruvious.

Personally I think Jian did a very professional job. It could have been way worse...Way worse.

... and actors who start side bands or side projects, need to relax when it comes to the inherent publicity they receive. I understand that you want it to be about the music and the band, because if I was in the same situation that's how I want it. I don't anyone would want to pestered about SlingBlade 2: Revenge of Childers for an entire interview with your band there, But when an interviewer briefly mentions the connection and you go nutbar get off your high horse. Come on BBT. The only reason the interview is happening with your band is because of societies fanfare with Hollywood Celebrities.

I think a real music historian would be a person who has studied music and has degrees on the subject and maybe even teaches other people about music history.

Billy Bob appears to believe that since he listened to music as a child, he's a music historian.

Sort of like how I believe I'm a professional hockey player because I played minor hockey. Anyone want my autograph?

What is it with being in a band that makes people into instant ######bags?

I consider Norman Blake and Ry Cooder music historians because they collect and record old and disappearing songs and types of music, thus preserving them and exposing them to contemporary listeners.

I consider Billy Bob to be a rude, self-inflated tool. I've listened to his music and there's nothing special about it. He's not preserving anything old or unusual. He's just pimping country music that's only borderline listenable at best. And that's being generous.

They're discussing this on CNN right now. Seem to agree that BBT is a goof.

The Star has a blow-by-blow of it, in case you missed it.

Starting to think this may be a big publicity stunt.

I watched the video.

To me I think Jian did a pretty good job. He treated the band the same way he does in other interviews (I watched a couple), but for BBT to insinuate that his band has any sense of popularity simply based on their own merits is ridiculous at best. They have an opportunity to perform, and perform with the likes of Willie Nelson because of the famous nature of their drummer. To deny that fact is to pretend that you're something you're not.

That being said, Jian was exactly right about why he brought up the acting thing. He provided context for those who aren't watching the video as to who exactly he is talking to, that it is indeed the actor, and then proceeded to make it all about the music.

Furthermore, BBT is most well known for his acting career, and it is fair to say that it is likely his primary interest/passion. So the questions he asked about his passions towards music are pretty justified.

BBT is a ###### canoe.

Google Billy Bob Thornton. It is spreading now.....MTV, MSNBC, and now the NY Times.

My money is at his Willie Nelson gig, he gets a shoe with gravy oozing out of it whipped at his head.

That adds merit to my theory he's just using the same media handler as Joaquin Phoenix.

That's actually one of the best, least recognized, films of the last 20 years.

his bandmates were completely uncomfortable during that interview as well. They can';t be too happy with that.

The interviewer did very well as he really could have lit into BBT and embarassed him and the band, but chose not to.

I think part of the problem was the interview was at 6 am - it doesn't take much sometimes to push someone over the edge at 6 am. Particularly when you're a loon like Billy Bob.
