Bruno is a silly movie - I had to laugh loudly and resoundingly.
I like it!

Yeah right! Next you're going to tell me that Liberace was gay too.
Bruno is a confirmed bachelor.

Ah I read a review in the New Yorker that slammed it for all the right reasons. Count me as one who enjoyed Borat and probably won't bother to waste 80 minutes of my time pretending not to be offended.

How do you know it the review is right if you have not seen the movie? A number of top critics have praised Bruno. Others have panned it.

I'm pretty familiar with the Bruno character and have always found him the most crude and least humourous. Apparently the movie is like the tv character on crack so I've got a pretty good idea. Besides the New Yorker is a pretty reputable publication, so I'll take their word for it.
I wouldn't mind the crudity if it wasn't for the fact that Cohen takes himself so seriously. Not only do we have to watch some guy act out every crude stereotype that the homosexuality community has tried to avoid, but it's all for the purpose of some "message."

If you substitute the bolded word above with "immigrant", how does this differ in any way from Borat? I really don't see the 'seriousness' of Cohen and the purported message he is trying to promulgate. Isn't it all just the piss-taking of imbeciles in different scenarios? Sort of like Rick Mercer and his American bit, is it not? I think the only difference is that IMHO Mercer stinks and Cohen is at least funny. It's his ability to make people squirm with his well placed darts that makes him hilarious.
I saw Bruno last night and had some mighty howls. I won't give any spoilers but for you that did see it, the star gazing while he's with the redneck hunters was so farking funny. I will say that I didn't think Bruno was as funny as Borat though.

I saw it a few nights ago and thought it was absolutely hilarious. Better than Borat in many ways, IMO. But I can understand why some people wouldn't like it - not everyone can take the offensive stuff. But thanks to the Internet, I pretty much crave that kind of humor. Plus it's not everyday you get to experience that kind of stuff in a movie!

I've been a fan of Borat (and Cohen in general) for a long while before his show even made it to North America. IMO that's when he was really funny as it was the first time he posed as Borat. The show on HBO was a remake of same skits in US that he already did in Britain. Being an immigrant from Eastern Europe myself, I think I find it especially funny since I can kind of see my older relatives in this character, who is of course exaggerated, but it seems Cohen had a potentially influential person in his life that gave him this idea of a character with what would almost seem like barbarian tendencies and he observed this culture shock effect on an ignorant westerner and found it hilarious. As do I. Even his choice of Kazakhstan was made purely to expose people's unawareness, there are two major groups in Kazakhstan, Asian and Caucasian, not middle Eastern as he would appear, and kind of make sense since the country's name ends in "stan".
Either way this new Bruno movie should be good, I'm looking forward to it

Borat had a certain innocence about him which was funny. Playing less on stereotypes, it more followed the absolute idiocy of the character as he bumbled from situation to situation. Bruno is crude on purpose. The character is used to directly assault other people's sensitivities.

I saw "Bruno" Today, ........ Um .....? .....?
...Not really sure what to think. "Borat" was better, but this (Bruno) movie was .......Ugh!....I'm still not sure.
I've been a fan of Baron Cohen for a long time, I think the Bruno stuff he did on the Ali show was funnier. The movie I think crosses the line on a few occasions. I wasn't impressed, nor did I laugh at the penis accrobatics,......I'll give it a 4 out of 10 on the comedy genre scale.
Like I said, Borat was better.
.......Yeah. Borat was way better.
I think Cohen was going for "shock value" in this one. It would probably have been a lot funnier had it been a little "cleaner".
Also, I don't know if Cohen will ever be able to pull off one of these Borat/Bruno movies again. The secret is out and everyone knows him now. In closing, I still say the "Borat" movie was comedic GENIUS!!!

Yeah, he's going to have to do something else. Too bad he already made the Ali G movie, because it was putrid.

I honestly expected a lot more from Bruno, it was short, still really funny but Borat set the bar pretty high for Cohen to repeat IMO.

saw it a couple of days ago. Was disappointed. borat was 10 times funnier.
This was one of those movies where 99% of the funny bits were on the commercials.
Lots of him trying to force a joke that just didn't work - the psychic scene in particular was just dumb.
