Yeah, I found it pretty unfunny, but so much of it depends on Fallon settling down and finding his own style. I'll watch again in a few weeks and see how he's coming along. Like Troutman says, it's all about finding a formula that works. I'm not a fan of him but I can't imagine actually wishing him to fail: he's a decent kid who seems to understand the enormity of the role that he's been given and the legacy he needs to live up to. I really hope he's able to find his voice and make a go of it.

watched last night. wasn't too impressed. the monologue was morelike weekend update than anything. the skits were less than inspiring. hopefully they can get the writers in a groove. i had pretty much lost interest by the time tina fey was over and turned the channel. certainly won't write him off this early, but nothing that inspired me to want to watch again soon. the roots we good though.

Fallon seemed way more comfortable last night. He's still finding his groove but I can see the promise, he's already better than Carson Daly.
I had my first big laugh from that show last night when Fallon was shaking Mayor Bloomberg's hand in front of the Castle of Grayskull. Awesome!

What I hate the most about this show is that they stupidly moved it to Studio 6B. It feels so alien and wrong.
For more than my entire life on this earth, Late Night with Letterman and O'Brien was filmed in Studio 6A and you can easily recognize. It was the basic exact same layout and never changed. It was totally recognizable despite all the new sets that went in over the years. It was always the same stage/curtains area, the same band area, the same fake window, desk, two chairs, audience, and door to the right of the host. It was a comfortable place that felt like home on TV at night since 1982. You could even count 1981 if you take in Letterman's morning show.

Well my wife's crush on Jimmy Fallon will certainly mean I watch his show more often then we ever watched Conan, even though I was a huge Conan fan.
So far I can't say I'm too impressed with Jimmy. I'm sure he'll settle down and get into a groove eventually. The funniest moment so far was Jimmy and JT reviving their SNL Beegees skit. Not a good sign for the writers.
Give it time and I'm sure they'll work out the kinks.

You must be pretty young.
Get used to change, you luddite.

Actually saw part of the show last night - he was cracking on Jimmy Crudup for being a big naked blue guy and stuff - it was pretty funny....I don't think we can judge this show for the first 6months or so tho - Leno wasn't any good for the 1st year and Conan sucked pretty bad too when he started. Fallon needs to find his groove but for all that he's still MILES better than Carson "######bag" Daly.

Sometimes Conan's first shows will appear on the interwebs and you can see just how bad Conan was in those days too. Often, there would be awkward silences and he didn't have anything planned to say. He was quite nervous for the first couple shows too.

Fallon had fantastic ratings in his first week:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_174585.html
NBC's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" attracted an average 2.4 million viewers the week of March 2, against CBS' "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," which averaged 1.9 million viewers, according to final Nielsen figures released Thursday.
In their opening night clash, Fallon scored 2.9 million viewers against Ferguson's 1.9 million.
Jimmy Fallon finished his first week as host of NBC's "Late Night" franchise on top, beating all cable and broadcast competition while also besting incumbent Conan O'Brien's season average.

That's too bad for Ferguson. Ferguson is one of a kind on television. Most people will never see it but this guy sometimes decides to spend entire shows on serious topics like the death of his father, his mom, 9/11, the election, how he beat alcoholism, etc.

Why was a guy like Ferguson or Kimmel not considered for this gig? Or maybe they were?

Yeah I suppose, I didn't really consider timeslots. I'm not a big late night watcher. Figured the NBC gig was higher profile.

Simple, they're on other networks and Fallon (having a great relationship with NBC see SNL) has been payed to keep himself "available" for the last few years.

did you see the guest list for the first week? They brought out the big guns, I looked at week 2 guests and was only vaguely interested in seeing one. Plus there would be a lot of people tuning in to see if he is any good, now that they know he isnt they will move along. Will be interesting to see 2nd and 3rd week numbers, doubt he keeps it up.

In all fairness though, Conan and Leno were both called failures in their first year by both the media and audiences.
I remember the first time I seen Conan, I couldn't believe that he had gotten his own show....I found it almost unbareable. Two years later, I thought it was some of the best late night t.v I had ever seen.
It takes a while for these shows to find their groove.
