I've been hit and run twice in parking lots. No notes, and then I filed police reports as well.

I hit a shopping cart in the Safeway parking lot and didn't report it to the deli. Am I going to jail?

Here is the real answer: Write a note. Note says "People saw me hit your car so I am writing this note. They think I am a stand up guy. I am not."

Didn't sound like OP suffered any serious injuries... and him and his buddy lack the wherewithal to profit from this scenario which leads me to further deductions, which I am not crazy enough to post in public.

In all seriousness, OP's buddy was clearly drunk or doesn't know how to drive, so I am all for him paying double rates. The vast majority of accidents I see are caused by 18 year-olds or 70 year-olds, who have one thing in common - they don't have the attention span required to drive a vehicle faster than a golf cart.

That's not too far from reality. About 8 years ago, my ex g/f came home (via transit) to find that the back end of her car was essentially demolished. There was no note on the car. Being a girl, she was all in tears and totally distraught. Until there was a knock on the door. Some random guy had happened to see the person who hit her car attempt to drive away. He sped up and high beamed him and got the guy to pull over and go leave a note on her car. So the guy did.
For good measure, the witness took a couple of notes including the plate number and the description of the car and driver, and just jotted it down.
Later on that afternoon, he went back to find *OMG* that the note was gone. Surprise! The d-bag had come back and took the note off the car. So the good samaritan left a note with his ph# saying that he witnessed the accident.
Guess it all worked out, but man, the guy that hit the car. What a lowlife.

Hahaha you guys are so eager to jump on me. I hate to say it, but I made that comment to see what you'd say.

If I caused damage, I'd leave a note. But it's happened to me twice where someone hit me and di not leave a note, so it kinda makes me think twice.

This guy was just telling a story about how he dinged someone's car in an empty parking garage, and right when he got out to write the note, a huge block of ice fell from the roof and smashed through his windshield. All I could think was, "wow, you were really gonna leave a note?"

Yeah I haven't hit anyone (yet) though... so no need to ever leave notes.

I've been hit twice, no notes. That means I am +2 on the karma scale, I should get two freebies. I know it doesn't work that way. Just makes me angry that I've had to pay my deductible twice on hit and runs.
