I find that pretty questionable.
The Canada-US border is one of the largest in the world I believe. If Canada is attacked by Russia, basically the US is threatened because there's no way they could secure the border fully.
Aren't the US and Canada huge trading partners as well? If your biggest importer/exporter is under attack, its going to affect your economy.
The two countries are two closely linked and have too many border issues for the US to be able to look the other way if Canada were attacked.
Would the US rather Canada had a much more substantial military to defend the north? Of course. But its a huge threat to America if anybody attacks/invades Canada.

Minor trivia but Capt. Riel Erickson of Millarville was apparently the first female fighter pilot to ever intercept a TU-95 Bear, which she did in 2007 I think.
Which apparently leads to the opportunity for this kind of link:

Like I said. I would love to help put a boot in the Russian ass but we have two wars that we are fighting now.
I just don't see our government doing anything until we are directly attacked.
I also find it funny with us being the butt end of a lot of Canadian jokes but when the crap hits the fan we are on speed dial to help everyone out.

Russia isn't the most liked country in the world. I think they will have a sh*t storm on their hands if they attacked a country like Canada.

Under the terms and conditions of the Nato Accords, an attack on Canadian Soil is an attack on NATO itself and all members will have to show up for the party.
Just like Canada had to scramble jets to help out the American's during 9/11 by patrolling over U.S. Cities, we'd see a swack of American planes overflying Canada to intercept those damn dirty commies.

As it relates to Arctic soverignty, I know the the federal government is building a deep water naval base up on one of those northern islands o'er there.
Point is, the Canadian military is making moves to establish themselves further to the north. The construction of this base in that location has huge strategic implications.

Water and oil.
The US does not want either to be under enemy control. Nevermind that the only time the US has been attacked on their continent was by Canada, there is no way they would stand by and watch an attack on Canada without getting involved.

If the Russians were going to attack Canada I would assume that your island would also be on that list of "great places to attack and use as a supply depot"
you can play Sweden all you want but you would be in the same fight

Canada has oil. US needs oil. US will protect Canada, ESPECIALLY if the dirty Russians invade, considering that the Russians want our oil too.
Oh, and I doubt the Russians will invade. They're not stupid.

Even more trivia, a few years ago there was a T.V. show called Jetstream on the learning channel. The show followed a group of Canadian Airforce Pilots going through the CF-18 training program, one of the rookies was Riel Erickson. she had a disasterous first half to her training and almost flunked out of fighter training.
They gave her the callsign "Guns" during her first air to ground mission when she dead eyed the target on the straffing run.
Funnily enough in terms of call signs there was a marine aviator in the Mel Gibson produced series Carrier (which was an awesome show), who wa asked why he was given the call sign Fungus. The marine looked at the other pilot and told him it stood for "$$k you new guy you suck"
In Jetstream one of the instructor pilot's call sign was bobbit because he screwed up his first air to air refueling test so badly that he sheared the head off of the refueling probe.

You know, one day.. whether it be Russians or Danes, I would love to see Canada actually blast them out of the sky or water when they try to test our soveriegnty.
Aren't we allowed just one incident like that?

I think if North America was threatened that the US would be forced pull troops quite quickly from those less critical wars.
You don't see an attack on Canada as a bigger national security threat to the US than anything since the Cuban missile crisis?

I think they would help Canada out even if it wasn't in their best interest, but since it clearly would be in their best interest for financial and security reasons I would think its a slamdunk.
Expecting the most powerful nations in the world to act in their own interest is usually a pretty safe assumption. The US has shown a history of intervening/interfering in countries where less of their interest was involved. Invasion/attack of Canada is a direct threat to their borders, to trade, to North American security. They wouldn't be helping Canada strictly to help their friends or be diplomatic or whatever. They'd be helping Canada in order to protect themselves.

With all due respect, and i actually mean that sincerely, The US has given themselves the role of global policeman, particulary when in their own best interests. When it is their single largest supplier of oil (I believe, correct me if I am wrong) they would answer the call.
And it is appreciated. Let's be clear we would be mudstomped if push came to shove and we were on our own.

PIMKing, it has nothing to do with America wanting to help or not, as a key signatory in NATO, an attack on any NATO allies soil is an attack on American Soil. Any attack on american soil is considered an attack on Canadian soil.
The American's have no choice but to jump in on the defense of their NATO allies unless they want to desolve NATO.
Combine that with the NORAD requirements and fundementally Canada and the U.S share a common command structure, and a common defense strategy.
There is no choice for the President.

Of course the U.S. would intervene.
But of course, that would probably be the end of Canada as a sovereign country. They would probably stay in charge for a long while anyway.

Yes we are, so long as both sides deny that the incident ever happened.

Even more, more trivia, Capt. Erickson has been a naughty girl lately . . . surrounded by a growing and stunning controversy in Okotoks/Millarville.

It would be the best thing to ever happen to the U.S. It would be a great opportunity to come in, build bases, have access to all the resources, control the NW passage...etc.
The thing about the U.S. "helping" is that they never truely leave after helping.
