And as for the thread topic, as it's been mentioned, the internet will just prove to hard to regulate or control. I just hope they don't spend to much time or money thinking they can.

"leftish metro-sexual types that work for the CBC in Toronto" - you focused on the wrong part of the sentence. Do you think there is anyone at CBC in Toronto that isn't, aside from Cherry?

Bruce Dinsmore then took the floor, commenting on his unique experience as an actor on Tac TV, a program created specifically for the internet which has experienced huge success. On average, TakcTV and its French version Têtes à claques receive a million views a day. Dinsmore cited this as just one example for the huge market that exists for new media. He then called upon the CRTC to require ISPs to pay a levy to help continue to ensure the production of such new media, from which they benefit. He proposed that ISPs be required to pay 3% of their revenue to any new media fund that is created. He described 3% as being equitable, reasonable, sustainable, and essential for the survival of Canadian new media content. He also pointed out that 3% is half of what traditional broadcasters pay to the Canadian Television Fund which accounts for the fact that not all of the profits of ISPs are generated from the broadcasting of new media.

Okay, is this not completely bass-ackwards? Aren't the ISPs delivering his show to (allegedly) a million people a day, and doing it for free? Now he wants them to pay for the production of his show on top of that?
Is that what he is asking for?

Is this guy a moron or is he just so imbued with the socialist hand-out mentality that he does not understand the "hits = advertising revenue" equation? If you want to get paid directly, make it a pay-per-view site and see how popular your show really is.

I am starting to resent the very country I was born and raised in....................does anyone else feel this way?
I feel like there will be no more fun to be had in Canada one day, because someone will be offended by it.....

Net neutrality needs to win out. No one should control the internet or regulate it. It is against the spirit of it and is just an overall ridiculous idea.
Google works very well, if I want to find your music/TV shows/movies/etc, then I will.

Summary of day two here: http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/3684/125/
Hearings resume on Monday. Interestingly, The Score and the NHL are scheduled to appear on March 9.
Looking at the agenda, it's not really surprising but I don't see anyone there to represent the interests of the end-user. People like you and me who, no matter how the hearing turns out, are going to bear the burden of any ISP levy/tax the CRTC decides to put in place to fund Collin Mochrie's latest project. I can't help but think if Joe Blow made an appearance he would probably make it known that he'd rather have access to Hulu in Canada than fund a French short film.
