This is exactly the speed I am getting as well. I have regular internet. I am running a wireless router to boot.

Yeah my ping is usually a bit better, around 86 but it's sure a lot worse than the city folk.

That 43,109 kb/s reading was after I played around with some program and it's not a true speed reading, though it's fun for a bragging contest. Normally the real speed is between 2500 and 6500 kb/s.

Wife said she pushed ours when it went live, but 2 days ago I tried and barely broke 5k download.

Now I am at almost 15k. No idea why the sudden variation unless node traffic is down at 7:45 am

Thanks Hemi-Cuda for your heads up.
I just phoned Shaw and they're going to replace my Terayon modem tomorrow, so I can get the 7.5 Mb/s rate. Maybe my ping will improve too.

So what should I do, I have the new modem that I got when upgrading to Extreme about 7 months ago, but still have the same speeds.

Is it just going to take a bit longer in Calgary for all of us or should I bother calling support?

Just tried mine and originally got around 4500 kb/s, which didn't seem like any improvement, so I rebooted the modem and now I get this:

Not bad for a free upgrade. That's well over 1 megabyte / second.

Anyone else having issues with shaw internet and their digital cable? Might just be a coincidence, but since i got our cable box put in we've had nothing but problems with the internet. Will run all hunky doory then all of a sudden we have massive packet loss and the internet becomes essentially unusable til it settles down for whatever reason. 3 phones calls, on to service call number 2 and not a solution in sight for them. Downtime costs me money so if they can't fix it with the service call tomorrow, i'll have to call telus and try and convince them to connect me without some stupid contract.

Gotta love dealing with phone support though, the last guy almost got me to flip out on him when he tried to convince me it was something on my end again even though we've tried every component in isolation with no issues.

I live in Lethbridge and I am on Shaw Extreme but I am only getting 3800 kbps after I've rebooted my switch. I think I'll have to give them a call after the game.

Called and the guy right away said that he'll have to send a tech out, but first asked me to bypass my router to make sure it isn't the router. Ok, basic troubleshooting step, I'll do it. Then he asked me to unplug the modem and before I even plugged the modem back in he tells me that he'll have to send a tech out. I asked him if he can just push the update and he said he did but the tests aren't working well. I comment that the modem isn't even plugged in yet and he says ok, plug it in. Well nothing changed, and he is sending a tech out.

Being in Lethbridge he tells me that I can only have daytime because they don't have anybody who can come out on Thursday night in Lethbridge. I complain that I'm too busy over the next few weeks to take time off work to wait around wondering when the guy will make it to my place. He then asks if Saturday works, and I question whether they have that possiblity in Lethbridge so he checks and tells me that he'll send somebody out on Thursday night. I question him on that since he just told me Thursday nights don't work in Lethbridge and he says he'll have a guy at my place on Thursday night.

I don't know about Shaw anymore. I had problems with them about 8 months ago and it took forever for them to send a tech out who was thourough enough to check everything.

If you do call Telus, call and ask for their "Winback" department; as you want to move from Shaw to Telus. When I got through to that department I was put into a 1 year contract, but the contract has a $120 penalty for breaking it, and they gave me ~$210 worth of first 3 months free for signing up. So basically even if I do have to break the contract I would still be ahead.

Yes, Telus is slower. (See the Telus thread for some speed test postings.) But I switched for the same mindset as you; downtime is money to me.

To me your issue sounds like too much going on over your neighbourhood's network; either somebody is hogging the bandwidth or for some reason there isn't enough bandwidth between HD and internet going to your house. My parents in Winnipeg had the same issues (35 year old house) when they got HD- and Shaw had to burry a new line from the junction box to their house. If they offer to to that, get it in writing when they will complete the burrial of the cable. Another friend had cable running across his back yard for 2 years before they got around to permanantly burrying it.
