- A buddy in Seattle works with Sub Pop so I've met and partied with most of the 90's grunge rockers over the years when I visit him. I've been witness to some of the hottest chicks and witnessed some bizarre drug use. All of Pearl Jam, all of Soundgarden, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters (was too young to meet the other members of Nirvana), all of Alice In Chains, all of Mudhoney and all of the Melvins.
- Went to a Radiohead concert in Lisbon a few years back and ended up meeting the band at a pub after the concert and having some beers with them. They all need to visit a good dentist but awesome, funny dudes.
- Met and had a few drinks with Kirsten Dunst, Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaul and Michelle Williams at a pub on 17 Avenue here in Calgary when they were filming 'Brokeback Mountain'. Heath was a nice guy, Jake was a dick and the 2 girls were hot.
- Bill Clinton did a speech a few years back and I got to meet with him after the conference with other co-workers. Most charismatic person you'll ever meet.

My only claim to fame is that I dated Owen Nolan's cousin in University. He used to call to chat with her while I was over hanging out.

Was she generally grumpy with a permanent "I'm going to kill you" look/scowl all the time?

I've met a decent amount of famous people due to my work, but most of them are Finns, so mostly not that famous in Canada. Most notable would propably be Tarja Halonen (our president, I've actually met her a couple of times, we have a mutual friend; We talked about cats). Most famous is propably Sami Hyypiä (the footballer, former captain of Liverpool and so forth). I drove him to the airport and we chatted some.

I've also met Ville Valo (the singer from HIM) and Lauri Ylönen (the singer from The Rasmus, which was pretty popular for a while at least around Europe). Hmm, and the singer from Stratovarius, don't remember the name. Bunch of other rockers and athletes too, but no NHL-players that I can remember.

Oh, I did drive Raimo Summanen, the former head coach Team Finland (he was the coach during the World Cup). That was actually somewhat memorable, 'cause I didn't recognize him at first and we talked hockey for about half an hour, and I talked about the way he got fired and stuff. Luckily I didn't have anything offensive to say, but it still made me feel like an ass.

I briefly met Terri Clark, but I didn't even know she was famous at the time..lol.

I seem to always meet the relatives of famous people. I knew Theo Fleury's cousin when I lived in Brandon. I went to school with Neil Young's cousin. My old girlfriend was roommates with Ross Rebliati's sister (got lots of free Roots gear from her), and I met Nelly Furtado's brother at a party in Victoria a few years back.

Jim Playfair (during the lockout he did some 'coaching' for a CNRL hockey outing at the Dome)
Peter Maher (during one of the Fan960 promotions - Kryzsky was there too)
Alison Krauss - in Nashville at some little bluegrass bar my aunt took me to when I was visiting
Matt Dudney (Barbara Mandrell's son) met him in Nashville as well, and he took my buddy and I to our first Hooter's experience (his girlfriend worked there).
Lanny McDonald - random meeting at MGM in Las Vegas
Pavel Bure and Alex Mogilny at Richards on Richards in Vancouver just after Vancouver signed Mogilny.
Dody Woods - 3rd/4th line goon from Sharks (I grew up with him in Chetwynd)
During my stag in Vegas we met Alan Thicke briefly - he was hanging out with Chris Chelios at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Did he mention that he was Nelly Furtado's brother every second sentence? (He definitley did that when I ran into him at a bar in Victoria).

I've met a bunch of hockey players and celebs randomly but I can't say I really *knew* any of them on a fulltime basis. Closest would be Prevail from Swollen Members lived in the same building as I did last year so I'd always run into him. Super nice guy.

Out of a long list of musicians, writers etc. Only one really mattered to me: Vaclav Havel.

oh, and big guy named Szopinski (sp?) was a wrestler in one of those makeup-and-shoulder-pad-wearing tag teams (Road Warriors, I think). Any way, the wrestlers were notoriously cheap when renting cars (they had to pay for them themselves). Their trick was to always order an economy car and we'd have to upgrade them to a town car at no extra cost when we saw them because they couldn't possibly fit in a firefly.

I decided to subtley make a point to this one, I said, "You're in luck, we have a firefly." My co-worker had a look of fear on her face, quickly shaking her head. The wrestler? He was shocked, speechless, didn't know what to do with himself.

After letting him chew on it for a good 15 seconds or so, I asked him if he would prefer a town car instead.

He still looked baffled when he left.

other wrestlers: Macho Man Savage, George the Animal Steele, and Honky Tonk Man

Bruce Hart was our substitute Drama teacher, in other words he took attendance and let us leave.
