Dude, if I was a boss, I'd take the day off to scratch my big toe... so this seems like as good of a day as any other.

Yup, that's the main reason why I'm excited.
And I do feel the whole 'first black president thing.' Like NorthEastGoon said, I'm just some white guy in Canada too, but it's very hard not to see the symbolism and get caught up with the pride.
I do get a little annoyed though when Americans start bragging about it like some on the news have saying, 'this could only happen in America'. Uhmmm, no. Many other nations have had female leaders of state. Places like Canada obviously haven't had a black president because we didn't participate in the slave trade, not because we're more racist or anything like that.
I guess the equivalent might be us having a asian head of state, but that could just as easily be because we haven't had one try to lead a party, not because we're not ready for it.

It's GWB's fault for that.

Canada might be the worst when it comes to this. Quebec won't even vote for a Non-Quebec white guy! There's no chance of black, asian, even Greek or Italian ever being PM. Or even women. Kim Campbell won a leadership race and got annihilated in the general election. That set women back 100 years.

We have had a chick though, plus some guy that couldn't speak either official language...

It's nice to see Cheney in a wheelchair. If only it was for something a little more serious.

I hope it's not true but I don't see it in my lifetime.
There aren't that many even in public office. The number of women MPs has been declining.
And YAY I got MSNBC to work!

Yeah but did females really want Kim Campbell as PM? I know the ones I talked to were very disappointed she was the first and felt it would set things back. If we had a legitimate female contender I'm sure things would be different. She was kinda like our Sarah Palin, HAHA!
I have to agree with the Quebec thing, and yeah there's probably some backlash in Alberta too, but I do believe we have several female, asian, and east indian MP's and MLA's. Plus gay mayors (Winnipeg).
I truly can't say if it's because of the voters, or just because we haven't had one try to lead. I know I don't look at color or heritage, nor would most of the people I know.

If it's being "crammed down your throat," why are you making such an effort to watch it?

As down as many people seem to be on this event, I think this has got to be taken as a happy day for the world. The end of 8 dark years of Bush, and a the beginning of a president who is actually bringing positive energy and inspiration to people rather than fear.
So what's the over-under on an assassination attempt within the year?

Yikes...poor taste.
At any rate...Bush has just left the White House for the final time as acting president.
Agreed with Dis's earlier statement though....this thing is ALL the news channels have been talking about since Friday....get it over with already.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a week or so of fanfare if it weren't for the fact that the election itself took two freaking years. Politics in this country is a little ridiculous--there's almost no time between election cycles for actually running the country.
