Why? Because I don’t want to be caught up in the Calgary gang “gun play.”
Normally my fiancée’ and I like to go for Vietnamese, but after what happened on New Year’s Day (innocent man killed) we will no longer frequent any and all restaurants that have an Asian theme. Seems like these are the “hang-outs” for gang members, and my safety and my families safety comes first.
Instead we will be ordering take-out and delivery when we feel like Asian food.
I know this may seem kind of extreme, but when innocent people are getting killed (and caught in the cross-fire) steps have to be taken to protect yourself and those around you. I’d rather just avoid “those” types of environments.
I never really thought much about the Asian gang problem here in Calgary, until that kid lost his eyes late last year, and now the triple homicide on New Year’s Day. I always thought “well, as long s they’re killing each other, then fine.” Well now innocent people are involved and the police are doing all they can do. No thanks to the revolving door of “the law” and the courts.
Those are my thought and my new year’s resolution. No more Asian restaurants.
Cheers!

Yes, and coincidentally it relates to the absurd perspective of the OP. I believe a U of C student's house (somewhere quite aways from campus) was driven by and shot at.
The next day I had a final at 8 am, and we were all standing around outside the gyms (ie like 500 people for a couple different exams) for 20 minutes after 8, before they came out and told us the exam was rescheduled for 2 weeks later.
How stupid is that? Some guy who happens to be a U of C student gets shot at and the next day the exam is cancelled. As if that wasn't stupid enough, they have 500 of us standing around waiting (where you could take one shot and take out dozens of people) and they figure our safety comes first and we shouldn't write that day?
So stupid.

It's pretty decent, I work right across from the restaurant and today was the first day you could access that shopping plaza, I will probably go there for lunch soon, haven't been in about 6 months.

His parents are very nice people, I fell very bad for them too. My family has known them for over 20 years, and I know many relatives of the deceased gang member and they are all very good people.
The OP better avoid Indian restaurants too. Their family own several of them and the deceased used to work/spend plenty of time at them.
I would also recommend avoiding anyplace that sells funny little car ornaments, because I've recently read somewhere that Asians are obsessed with those.

We've already got that covered, first we kill their strongest in Polar Bears, then we kill their umm...grizzliest...by eating all the Salmon. The rest we'll leave for the wrath of Colbert.

So you don't hate ALL Asians, just a select variety of them? Maybe you should be more specific in your racism or at least take a geography class.

Yeah, they seem to have more of those restaurants there than anywhere else.

Honestly, I don't know why everyone is getting so upset at the thread starter. Is it really that silly?
I think at one time or another, we've all stopped going to BBQ's, Burger Joints, fast food, and Dennys because of the Hell's Angels.

Well that does it; this thread has opened my eyes to all the scary things in the world. I will be locking myself in my panic room for the next few months and hope all these issues work themselves out.
I mean honestly, what has this world come to? Asian restaurants killing their patrons, Indian restaurants naming themselves "Thai Boat", it all just doesn't make sense anymore.

Agreed. Not really sure what the big deal is; he doesn't want to go to those restaurants, so what? Sometimes shootings happen in them because of gang-related activity, and lately it's been moreso for whatever reason. I don't think the OP is 'racist' or whatever for not wanting to go to Asian restaurants... that's his choice.

If you live in fear you are just giving all the power to the bad guys.
Too bad our police force is completely useless though......................too busy writing up seatbelt tickets as opposed to actually solving crime.
