Yeah, that has curtailed most of my carousing anymore.
I like to get out, but I need to be sure of getting home and cabs can be scarce and expensive to the NE. (as it is, tonight is my Christmas party. What do you think the odds of getting a cab tonight, probably one of the biggest Christmas party nights, and a snowstorm coming in to boot? Oh, and it is a 35km trip (one way) - so I'm playing Designated Driver for the people whose homes I would be driving by)

Or what you could do(and what we always do) when you're in the cab on the way there; ask if you could pre-book with him for whatever time you wanna leave for. Not all cabbies do it, but I'd say about 80% of the time they've done it for us. You'll have to pre-pay which I guess could be risky. But I've never had a situation where I've pre-paid and had the guy never show up.

I also love the Alcove. Perhaps I've seen you there. My best friend dates the old host Justin, and Laura played ball with us sometimes on the CP team.

Haha that's cool, I haven't been there in a couple months unfortunately, but I'd have to apologize if you have seen me there, because chances are your ears have been subjected to some of my horrible drunken karaoke of Brooks & DUnn and John Michael Montgomery songs!

Well, I'm done my test, so off to the King's Head for a Birthday party. I should be there in about 2 hours....

Definitely agree about 1410 (my 'local') except on Oiler game nights when there tends to be greaser fans in attendance. Also agree with Moose's, although the lack of peanuts is a sadness. An offbeat choice is the Dog and Duck, on 53rd just east of Mc. Trail. Converted house, good beers, funky atomsphere. Food is OK, but they have really good wings.

King's Head Pub for me, it's kind of our local work/drunktime pub.

I just came from there. The Head has really hit rock bottom.
The food used to be great and cheap, $6.25 steak sandwich, burger and a beer on wednesdays, but all that is gone. The KH is pretty brutal now...

Maybe I should rephrase that as "The bar I goto most" instead of best bar in Calgary, I do somewhat agree. It has gone downhill a bit since they changed owners, but really it's still my home, gotta say though the reno's ing suck.

Who goes there for the food? Isn't it pretty much a pick-up joint for single parents?

Umm....when you go back to her place, spotting her cash for the babysitter or a rugrat/ankle biter running around is pretty much a deal breaker.

What about the Black Swan? Great wings on Wednesdays, but a damn long trip for us uni students.
