Don't kid yourself.
Sometimes tomatoes are waxed or oiled, apples routinely are.
It keeps the moisture in and helps stop the skin from bruising.

Count me in the water camp. I would avidly avoid using anything more then that, and when I have kids, I will be sure to make sure they get their share of germs.
Germs are necessary, and the body needs to learn from them, not hide from them.

I sort of do both. School half the year, work half the year. Almost..done...so...close....
Your CP moniker is misleading with the MRC at the beginning.
Anyways, the moral of the story is that when relative to cucumbers, sticky is bad and slippery is good. So remember kids, wash your cucumbers before engaging in any oral activities.

But they do have insect crap, horse manure and other 'natural' ingredients all over them.
Yum Yum

Well, when I joined up almost 4 years ago, I was at MRC, with plenty of years left. Now, my name is out of date, but since I'm not special, I doubt I'll change it hehe.
As far as making a cucumber slippery, I recommend something silicone-based. Wet Platinum is a good product. Of course, if you want to wrap your mouth around it, you have to stick to water-based, so go with the ID Glide.

I forgot about the tomatoes, I usually try to buy the Roma toms which seem tastier and un-waxed. I generally steer clear of the apples just because of the fact that they are so bright and waxy they seem fake.

Thats spectacular advice for all you cucumber enthusiasts out there. Although, I'm not sure the average person needs to lube their cucumbers prior to consumption, but different strokes for different folks.

This is a macro I took of a blackberry. Just looking at it you would have thought it was really clean.

On topic: I just wash my fruits and veggies with tap water.

eh, doesn't really bother me, manure is the best fertilizer for fruit/vegetables. and if its feces you're worried about, i'm sure we get our fair share from touching metal poles on the bus/subway, using public telephones, etc.

You can't wash off stuff that is inside any fruit or vegetable, and you probably can't wash off all that is on the outside either. Nor do I think you have to go completely sterile and antiseptic in your approach.
but there is no way in hell I am going to eat any bought fruits or vegetables without prior rinsing. Most people do pick up and examine produce before they decide to buy it so I either give a short rinse and wipe, or a longer rinse.
things like grapes, broccoli etc, I wash longer because it is harder to cleanse inside all the little nooks and crannies.
Really, just use common sense.

I used to think water did the trick until I tried some of that fit stuff. The first time I washed grapes with that stuff after I washed them with just water was an eye opener. I didn't know grapes could look or feel so shiny and clean. Water no longer cuts it in my books. I was definitely in the water camp wholeheartedly until I saw what else came off of fruit and veggies.
