New NHL 09 Patch

360 should be getting it early next week. Microsoft screening going slower then with Sony I imagine.

So has this been released for the 360? I signed in to the game, and there was an update for it, but nowhere did it mention that it was a patch.

If it was the patch, do the changes apply to current dynasties or BAP modes?

Yeah, the patch is out, and it'll apply to dynasties and BAP.

Played a couple games with my roomie (2 of us vs computer)...ended up winning all three of them (against the Laffs, Blues, and somebody else).
I think the game play is much improved...and it seemed in the limited time there was a lot less goals for the computer off of broken plays, which is one thing that really pissed me off before.

Also had a 5-3, which was cool (computer took a tripping penalty, then a delay of game)...but for the most part we took a lot more penalties than the AI.

This has nothing to do with the patch, just the game in general(there's no generic NHL 09 thread to stick this in). Seems to take a few days to get the scoring down, I can actually routinely get 2-3, sometimes even four goals a game, and thats without resorting to cheese goals. I find you just have to learn to not be so one-dimensional with your offensive rushes. The AI is amazing in this game, it picks up your routine and will completely lock it down(which I love. It makes you actually use your brain)

Its been drilled into me from the past 15 years of the EA NHL series to sweep in wide and at the last second pass the puck to your forward on the other side of the net for the one-timer, that's been my signature move since NHL 93. But in this game, itll work a couple times before the AI figures out your gameplan and clogs up the slot to swallow up your pass, and then youre fooked. So as long as you try different things every offensive chance, the AI won't be able to shut down your plan. On odd-man rushes, sometimes I do the pass one-timer, sometimes I'll drop it back to my D-man, and sometimes I'll just fire off a slapper from the side. The AI never knows what you're going to do, and can't adjust accordingly.

Haha I'm sure you guys figured this out long ago and dont care. But I'm just glad I finally figured it out. Before, I was routinely outshooting the computer like 35-15 every game and losing 1-0 or 2-1 in a shootout, I was ready to put the game in the microwave.

PS- one thing I really need to figure out is the 1-on-1 deke. Almost every time I use it, I cough it up.

This is without a doubt the greatest hockey game of all time, and I'm close to calling it greatest sports game of all time. Granted, I'm not a big Madden fan, but nothing has been as good as this in a long time, as far as I can tell.

I'm a huge Madden fan, easily my favourite sports franchise. I buy it every year. And the past two years, EA NHL has it beat.

I just got my PS3 a few months ago and have never installed a patch. I'm assuming that link has a link to it or where do I go to get it? How do I download it? And lastly, if I don't like it is there a way to remove it? Thanks!

if youve played online BAP at any point in the last couple weeks you wouldve had to upgrade to the newest version
I got my message when i was playing offline BAP, that the newest version had been detected and that if I wanted to continue playing I would need to download the patch

Oh, so the patch is available when you log in to the game mode? Like a roster update? That would be good because it means you can always load your old settings if you don't like it. Thanks.

with a patch, I dont think it would be as simple as just going back and reloading game settings.
It would more likely be along the lines of deleting all your NHL09 files from your HDD and starting again from scratch, and never playing on line again

the only problem I have with the patch is the shot accuracy nerf, but then again even before the patch I had problems hitting the broadside of a barn, so all my shots that went high and wide before, are just a little more so

yeah I really noticed the shot accuracy yesterday, recieved a beauty pass and tried to go far side and put it over the glass

ya I seem to do that a bit

on the PS3 team i get the occaisional breakaway pass, my move is to go forehand, backhand, back to forehand and clear it, without touching anything, over the glass...as Im standing about a foot in front of the goal line...its beauty

I used to be able to hit it top shelf... just over the goalies shoulder

OK, another question: How in the heck do I download roster updates for the 360?

Every time i go to EA online through the game menu, go to roster update, and it ALWAYS says "error communicating with server" - even though I have NO PROBLEM with Xbox Live... it is really starting to piss me off.

hey between the last couple of stats updates i played something like 12 games and managed to only take 2 minors...of course in the same time frame i was a -15...

maybe theres a correlation there...

I'm also getting the same problem and wanted to bump this. Does anybody out there have any idea?

I hope EA re-jigs the accuracy again. After the patch I miss literally dozens of chances on feeds in tight because my players invariably shoot the puck over the net. Of course, if you dont aim high, you hit the sprawling goalie.

It's gone from too easy to controller-throwingly frustrating for me. I'll dominate a team for several minutes and have a bunch of chances go over the net, only to have them come down and bang in their only scoring chance of the period. I can outshot teams 2-1 and still either lose or win by maybe one goal.

I've had it.

I spent an hour trying to play today. Three lost connections, one freeze, idiot teammates and finally a unreadable disk error in overtime meant I never finished one game.

I'll still play a bit with our league when we have some people on. Otherwise I will not be playing this game again and I will finally keep my word and not buy an EA product ever again. So friggin frustrating.
