Comes in two models. $1999, 15.4-inch LED backlit display. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3MB L2 Cache, 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 Memory, the two GeForces, 250GB hard drive and SuperDrive.
Second config is $2499. 2.53GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 4GB memory, 512MB video memory and bigger hard drive.
About what I expected for the Pro's....was hoping for a Bluray though.

No kidding.
Love the dual graphics, though. 9400 for the day-to-day use (low power consumption), with the ability to switch over to the 9600 512MB chip for gaming (higher power consumption). Nice!

Edit: 1066MHz RAM! Backlit keyboard! Nvidia graphics!
(Remember, this is the "non-pro" regular MacBook.)
Aluminum unibody shell on the MacBooks, too!

At that price, not a huge incentive to get the Pro.

Exactly. That 1599 MacBook will do everything most people need it to do. The Pros are pretty much only for gaming now (and maybe HD video editing).

I've been waiting for about 3 years now to replace my laptop, and everytime they came out with it, it looked like the last one (Ive had my current Powerbook for 6 years, and dammit i wanted to look at something different). Today I think they finally came out with the laptop i want to buy.
Ironically, I lost most of my diescretionary money from the market crash last week, so now I probably can't afford it, haha.

from gizmodo...
Q: Are you going to have matte screens or just go with glossy glass ones? How about with reflection problems?
A: Just glass, and we’re going to compensate for the reflection from pushing more light through the back. And, since these are notebooks, you can position it any way you want.

I'd say the 1299 version pretty much does what most people need. The 1599 version is almost too much computer to recommend to anybody I know who is currently in the market for a laptop.

I agree, but I was thinking more of the current "pro" market. Graphic artists, video editors, etc etc.
Edit: Oh wait. Nevermind, you're right. I was just stuck on the 1599 because of the backlit keyboard, but it really isn't that much more powerful than the 1299.

I think you're right about the pro's really being mainly for those who work with video or high end graphics. I'm quite heavy into photoshop and the other members of the creative suite and I'm not even near wishing I had a pro. There will always be those people that demand a pro then do nothing more than check email and play poker all day.
edit: That backlit keyboard is pretty sweet.

I dont use video, but I often do have photoshop, illustrator and indesign open at the same time....I wonder if the Macbooks could handle that.

These new ones with 4GB ram (upgrade) should be able to handle that no sweat.
I have Photoshop, Illustrator, Paint Shop Pro, Dreamweaver, Firefox, MySQL Query Browser, Excel, Access... Crystal Reports, even... at the same time here at the office, and I'm doing it on a Dell box with a Dual Core Pentium (not a Core 2 Duo) and 2 GB RAM. Running 32bit Vista Business, too. Nvidia 7200 business-class graphics!
Those new MacBooks are way more machine than I'm running here.

Had a Powerbook/Macbook Pro for the last 5 years and never once have I used the backlit keyboard.
Neat feature, but practically useless unless you are typing in a cave.

huh? My macbook pro automatically lights up when the room gets/is dark and actually I think it helps quite a bit. I thought it was an automatic feature.

You can turn it off/on again.
I find that the screen lights the keyboard well enough.

Interesting. I assumed it would be able to handle this stuff, just wanted to make sure. Like I said, Im running a Powerbook G4 at the moment, so I'm used to waiting around a lot, ha.
Can you hook up a Macbook to an external cinema display?
