It's kind of the same situation that Kris Lazaruk was in with the Ice.. overager, two young guys (Heemskerk and Lieuwen) ready to make the team. And then he goes into Cran with the Rockets last night and gets the win.
Hopefully for Spence he gets to suit up somewhere soon.

^^ and I guess Spence won't be coming either.
Brett Ward (20) and Evan Fuller (20) to CWK from MJW for Brayden Metz (18).

Why in a game between two rivals who in their last game had five fights does the WHL have only one ref?
Tonight the one ref system resulted in 2 Calgary goals in a game in which Calgary won by surprise, surprise 2 goals.
I know that the WHL has some trouble getting qualified guys, and I for one can't believe I want more of these dopes on the ice, but if you are going to have one incompetent guy out there is adding another really that big of a deal?
Its frustrating to watch a guy get a horsecrap call and then get another 10 for pointing out to the idiot ref that he just cost the team a goal on that bogus call.

Giants shut down Kelowna 7-1 tonight.. looked good and now have 31 goals in 4 home games. Kane with the hat trick, Bouma a goal and a fight (was tossed as well).
Next up: Prince Albert tomorrow.

Oddly enough, when you were talking about an incompetent referee, Skilliter wasn't the name that popped into my head... I didn't hear the game last night, but I presume you are talking about the delay of game penalty that Wright took in the 2nd? Was that a puck over the glass call? If so, a second referee probably wouldn't have changed it, as there were already three officials who felt it was a penalty. A fourth probably wouldn't have changed their opinion.
I feel your pain though...
Speaking of Wright, how did he do in the fight against Burgart? From what I've seen of Rigby, he's not going to get in many fights after the halfway point of the season. He's just about destroyed everyone he's fought so far.

The reason that a second referee would have made a difference is that Skilliter didn't see the play. He went over to the lineman who clearly was unsure of what happened and then they decided to give the penalty. With the two referee system it is likely that one of the two refs would have seen the play and been able to make the right call.
In this case it wasn't three sets of eyes as it was one guy who at the time didn't realize that he was going to have to end up making the call.
On the play the puck was just outside the zone and looked like it was tipped out as well.
With a two ref system it is a ref making the call on the spot not a lineman trying to remembre what happened after Skilliter came over to ask him.
I usually think Skilliter is pretty good. Last night he made some bonehead calls, but what WHL ref doesn't. The incompetent comment wasn't meant for him specifically but the general incompetence of WHL referees overall.

It wasn't much of a fight as there weren't many clean shots thrown before they went to the ice. Bugart jumped Wright from behind after Wright made a big, clean hit. Wright clearly got more shots in maybe 3-4 to Bugarts 0-1 and would have to be declared the "winner" but it was mainly just them being tied up more than anything.

Giants outshot Prince Albert 44-10, including 21-0 in the third period, but had to erase a 4-1 deficit after 40 minutes.
Then in the shootout, PA gets three goals on 5 shots against Sexsmith for the 5-4 win. Weird game...

Hitmen drop their first home game of the year tonight 3-1 to the Blades. Kisio has sent 20 year Ian Duval to the Warriors for 18 year old Derek Grant, who is committed to college hockey, and a conditional 3rd round pick. Hopefully Grant will change his mind and come to the Hitmen, he has 21 points in 9 games in the BCHL so far this season.

Watching the past couple games, part of me wishes Plante hadn't rescinded his trade demand. I haven't decided which word describes his play better: Uninspired or disinterested. Three lazy penalties last night, and he most certainly has not established himself as any kind of leader or quarterback on the blue line. Starting to look like another fine Edmonton Oilers first round pick.
Tough game for both teams last night. Neither team had any success finding any kind of open lanes, resulting in a lot of scrambly plays. Coulda gone either way, but Saskatoon was just a bit better.

So far as I know, if he can get a doctor to clear him to play, he'd be eligible, though obviously wanting to wear a full shield.

WK tough luck!
Not injury-related, but I think Bronson Maschmeyer wore a full cage last year when the Giants called him up during the Spokane series..

Easy win for the Hitmen last night, 7-2. Felt bad for PG's goalie, Anderson, who had an absolutely brutal night in goal.
Plante was pretty terrible in the first again, but started to pick it up in the last two periods. Nice to see him finally making some good plays. And he flat out destroyed an opponent in a fight.
8-3 so far in a rebuilding year, not bad. Tonight's gonna be tough though. I would imagine the Hurricanes are going to be out for revenge.

Heard that the Hitmen have released Dan Spence today after failing to come up with a trade. I wish him good luck and hope he can continue playing somewhere. Had a fine career as a Hitmen.

Yeah, that was unfortunate, but we have to get down to the legal number of 20 year olds, and if we can't get a trade for him, no sense letting him stagnate. Hopefully someone in the CHL has need for him, as he is a good goalie.
As far as last night goes, where the hell were these wins against Lethbridge last year? 4-0 win, and a fairly dominating one at that.

It was a great win. The funny thing about it, is that I was disappointed that the Hitmen didn't get one more goal for the free burger. I probably won't even use all of the burger coupons I get this year from Hitmen games, but I was still disappointed that I didn't get another one.

Chiefs lose a close one tonight to the Americans. 3-2 in a shootout. On the plus side, Wahl picks up another goal tonight
